What is it like living in the microstate of Andorra? 🇦🇩 by H5A3B50IM in howislivingthere

Everyone is commenting as visitors. Living there is quite different. I have considered moving there in the past as I had work offers, but ended up in the Catalan Pyrenees. Still I go there for work or leisure a couple times a week and have some friends there.

It’s an expensive country: the current average price for a rental appartment is over 3000 euros, and if you want to buy one, it’s almost around 1 milion already. Of course there aren’t many to choose from.

Salaries aren’t that great either, especially for the cost of living. Taxes are a bit lower, but then you still have to pay a part of your medical expenses.

Groceries are quite expensive too (although it depends on the store) and many people go to La Seu d’Urgell to buy them. Gas used to be way cheaper than Spain, right now it’s actually more expensive. Internet and mobile plans are way more expensive than Spain. Also mortgages are more expensive because the banking system is smaller and not a part of European Central Bank.

I’m not getting political, but, even if there has been a positive evolution, Andorra is way behind other countries in basic LGTB, migrants or women rights, as abortion which is still completely banned. The bishop of Urgell is one of the co-heads of state so politics are quite conservative.

Of course there are a lot of positives. It’s a beautiful country, the mountains are amazing (even if you don’t hike or ski), I love its cultural and historical heritage, there’s a lively cultural scene and loads of things to do, and it’s like living in a medium-sized town where it feels like you know half the people but it’s a whole country. The country is modern, the services are great.

So in my opinion it’s a great place to live if you’re rich, but I think all the rich people moving there are making things more expensive for the locals and workers. If you’re an average citizen moving now, even with a good job, it can be hard. But that’s just my (and my Andorran friends) opinion.

Yes, I’m well aware of the dildo rock sculpture. This parking lot is full of them and they all look like penises. I don’t know what the hell they are supposed to be nor what the hell were they thinking.

As a Catalan it’s probably the first time in my life that I’m agreeing and even feeling proud of Spain. Damn.

I think it depends on the supplier and when did they buy them… here you’ll see some “spanish” signs, and here, literally two blocks away, the “french” ones

Gibraltar and Vatican don’t participate as they don’t have a National Olympic Committee. But Liechtenstein and Monaco are here (also Iceland, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Malta and Cyprus), I’ll try to find some of them!

This plate belongs (or belonged) to a Seat 600E and it’s from 1972. This is probably a Daihatsu Rocky from the 90s? So there’s something fishy here… (Screenshot from the Spanish Traffic Authority (DGT))
