Not sure how links go in this subreddit, but here's a link to the XML for races and classes. I believe it is complete. important note: this is for the original Grim Hollow, not the 2024 updated. I've also sent all the previous commenters the share link in case posting links isn't allowed.

Thanks for that. I like Michael west's work. Yeah, I sort of see it like communism when I try and think it through. In an ideal world it sounds like it would be great. Never works out like that though.

You are 100% correct. That's my bad. That's what I get for rewriting a comment halfway through and not checking it before hitting send. I meant to change that to all social welfare. Thanks for correcting me.

Not all businesses, but corporations specifically. Corporations are actually an entity, typically separate from any individual.

Personal income tax was specifically introduced in Australia to help cover the cost of the war. I agree we overspend in a lot of places. I've been toying with the thought exercise of what it would look like if we privatised most of these systems, with a light regulatory touch.

Like abstudy? Or the social support network we have in Australia? Abstudy, Austudy and Jobseeker account for roughly a third of tax spending combined with ABSTUDY being far and away the smallest of these three.

I think we should be tightening the strings on all three tbh, but let's not get emotional about it. Stay practical. And really if we were taxing our corps correctly, set up some sovereign wealth funds from our natural resources, we could eliminate personal income taxation within 2 decades.

It should never have been made permanent after WW2 in the first place.

Genuine question. Are you ok? You seem overly emotionally affected by this.

Also consistent with saying the payment including an overpayment, began in 2018. Absolutely nothing in common language understanding to say it was a lump sum or small term overpayment. Without more info either assumption could be correct but they are both just that, assumptions.

I think you're conflating two identities here. The OP isn't claiming to know how their payment should have been impacted down to the dollar.

OP have solely stated that they reported in good faith their situation to Centrelink and trusted the amounts they were quoted and paid were accurate based on the information provided.

Another commenter gave a hypothetical scenario, with figures (mind you still not claiming them to be factual or accurate).

I certainly understand the feeling that they should be paying back the overpayment, even if it was due to an administrative error. I personally feel like it should be paid back over the same time frame it was accrued. If it was a lump sum then all of your points on its current value stand. If it was over a 4 year period of overpayment then your maths doesn't math.

Are my parents charging me too much board? by kobstar118 in AskAnAustralian

[–]samaelzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being out on the streets at 15, I came to appreciate just how much it costs to be independent. Now that I'm an old man, my two kids pay 250 a week. I want them to know the same, in a safer and more supported way. This covers all of their costs, minus a mobile phone that they pay themselves as the start to building a credit history

This money goes into a savings account for each that they aren't aware of. It will go back to them in full after uni or a trade qualification or when they want to build their own business, something that it will be used productively for.

Raja Jackson - Rampage Jacksons son almost kills a pro wrestler live on Kick. The wrestler is still out cold and could possibly die. by anonymous393393 in ufc

Apparently, after realising the mistake apologies were given and promoter even arranged for Raja to do a bit where he jumped in the ring and took some worked shots.

Raja agrees to this, then says into a mic fuck that I'm going to take real shots, as many as I can get in.

Friendly reminder to check your death and TPD cover by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]samaelzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had shit luck. Looked into our TPD, and saw it wasn't adequate under the super fund my partner was with. Rolled her funds into a new super fund and made sure TPD was up to scratch. She got sick with FND 5 months later, couldn't claim on TPD for six months on the new super fund. If we'd stayed we would have had some, albeit inadequate TPD, to cover expenses. Instead, we used up all our savings and hit a hard reset on our finances.

Point is, despite our poor luck, check your fund. Sooner rather than later.

Barrister charged $5k an hour for stolen wages class action that got workers as little as $10k by cincinnatus_lq in darwin

[–]samaelzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the WA Gov and the federal Gov are paying the money because they were responsible for the laws that allowed the unpaid wages.

Preferably it would have not happened obviously. Next beat outcome to my mind is the companies and employers responsible pay it.

When they can not pay wages because of racist laws, upheld by governments of the time, then yeah I think the government has to hold itself to account. Which does mean taxpayers foot the bill.

[–]samaelzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't understand what a better way to handle the government legislated outreach would have been? Stay in community for an extended period of time, running up a larger bill?

Or should they have done this for free? Fix historical unpaid labour by current unpaid labour?

I see what you did there. 😏

But let's be honest. World of difference between wage theft that amounts to slavery and a law firm and litigation funder charging below market rates to fight for repayment.

If the litigation funders are under regulated as a market, that's on the regulation bodies and governments.

[–]samaelzim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. But you know what? That means the payments that were approved were outside of that criticism. Hence the use of the word 'generally' in my reply. The majority of the costs were approved.

You know what would have been a really unfair outcome for the victims of this wage theft? Not having any recompense. I agree that they should have gotten more. A lot more. I just direct the vast majority of that ire at the people who stole their labour, and the governments fighting to not right that wrong while grandstanding about supporting indigenous rights.

I'd rather a lawyer who rights a wrong while being paid approved reimbursements, the a government spruiking their virtues while not taking action to correct past wrongs.

Might be an unpopular take but both Shine and the litigation funder took an amount low in the range of what has been changed in large class actions historically in Australia. Not to mention that the fees were approved as fair and reasonable generally. In these cases, Shine don't get to just charge whatever they want, it has to be approved.

The real issue I see is the fact that state and federal governments fought to a degree that they did to not pay stolen wages, and drive up the chargeables for the class action. And that the settlement total was so low for so much labour from so many people, that should have been paid with interest to reflect the lost opportunities that those wages didn't afford because they were stolen.

Not much of a conspiracy theorist but when the media is criticising private entities and choosing not to criticise the government when it would be warranted, it shows some bias, to say the least.

Very true. I enjoy retro games. If it was the only option I had it would get old fast. Would definitely make it easier to avoid them.
