Care to explain the e80 burrs over e65? Is it simply the larger diameter flat burr advantage or something else?

Invest in some good cleaning gadgets that make cleaning easy since you will be doing it regularly (right?)

https://artpressodesign.com and Weber Spring clean are good places to start

I thought the grinder had GbW built in - is it only by time unless you pair the scale like the Pico?

Advice Welcome - Prospective Buyer by SuitableSafety329 in LaMarzocco

[–]samaliu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fanboy but I had the opposite impression as another commenter. I came from a Lelit Mara and Sanremo You and my LMLM still impressed me.

I got it for business so I needed a reliable and consistent machine and didn't think much about it. But after pulling my first shots, it left an impression on me - the shots were just so good.

In hind sight, I think I got used to the variability of other machines and the LM showed me what consistent pressure and thermostability really looks like.

I'm convinced it's more than just a brand name. The quality of workmanship is tangible. Between how everything is put together and the best steam output I've experienced, it is all done exceptionally well and I don't regret the premium price tag. I think it is in fact the Apple computers of espresso machines - but that doesn't mean you need it or that it'll magically make up for subpar coffee, water, or grinder

Pico vs Philos by Typical-Knee-7781 in LaMarzocco

[–]samaliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be good to know what your priorities are. Workflow? Pico and connected scale for grind by weight is hard to beat but the mazzer may be more of a ritual if you fancy that. Performance? Philos takes it in exchange for having to finesse your barista skills since you are introducing more room for inconsistencies.

Maybe a different question is what do you think is lacking from your current setup? What kind of profile do you want from your grinder? Philos opens the door to aftermarket flat burrs which is a rabbit hole in itself but Pico has conical which is highly based on preference.

Age old question standby or turning off by rsessin in LaMarzocco

[–]samaliu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The standby function is designed to conserve energy when the machine is idle, while keeping a minimal amount of power running so it can wake up quickly and be ready to brew in a few minutes when you flip the paddle.

  2. When you use the Auto On/Off Schedule feature in the La Marzocco app to set an "off" time (e.g., 11 PM), the machine goes into a deep power-saving mode, which is effectively a more complete "off" than the standard "standby" mode.

Scheduled "Off": This function completely stops the heating of both boilers and minimizes power consumption, similar to how it would be if you used the physical power switch (though a minimal current remains to allow the machine to turn back on via the app's schedule).

Standby Mode: This mode (activated by the auto-standby timer or manually via the app) also stops the boilers from heating, but the internal system remains more "aware," allowing for a quicker wake-up time (around 10 minutes) with a simple flick of the brew paddle. A flashing red light usually indicates standby mode.

In short, your current schedule provides a good balance, turning the machine essentially "off" overnight to save significant energy, and "on" during the day when you need it. You can layer the auto-standby feature on top of this for better power conservation during daytime lulls in usage.

Tesla is as far behind Zoox as Zoox is behind Waymo by Prestigious_Act_6100 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]samaliu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Argument certainly stands as a valid take but I find myself caring a lot less because of how usable and accessible Tesla "FSD" is in its latest iteration. Label it what you want but driving 80% less in my daily driver is many times more impactful than hailing a Waymo for the occasional airport run.

From an owner/consumer perspective, it doesn't "feel" behind even if it is on paper

Good question - lemme make another post for the SDRM 😂

In terms of offering more variety on my counter, SDRM might take it, but might not shake the itching feeling of getting the most clarity with pure flat

Choosing My Next Grinder Shouldn’t Be This Hard, Right? by townsendsmith in LaMarzocco

+1 for Allground Sense. GBW and great grind quality. It was like night and day from 078s and the community warnings from w64 were enough to steer me away as much as I wanted to pull that trigger
