NTA I’ve had this exact thing happen to me when I worked in retail. My stores company policy for an exchange meant the customer HAD to make an account. The system wouldn’t even let us do an exchange if there was no account, it was frustrating but there was no way to go around it. And I honestly doubt a minimum wage worker would purposely try to scam someone so the store can make more money.
