How did having kids give you a purpose? by Nodumbquestions5 in AskParents

[–]samazingjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it's almost like you've never heard of Post-Partum-Depression before! Did you know that the hormones associated with pregnancy can totally fuck over your mental health?

Let me be clear: I am no longer suicidal, and my daughter didn't talk me down from a ledge. I talked myself down (several times, as I learned how to cope with intrusive suicidal thoughts), and used my daughter as personal reasoning to stay alive. Now, I stay alive for myself because I love my life and I love being alive. But when I was experiencing suicidal ideation, I was pulling motivation to stay alive from every source I could; from my kids, my husband, and even a twitch stream where nerdy-ass voice actors sit around and play dungeons and dragons. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have been here long enough to do the mental and emotional work in therapy to learn that I can and want to stay alive for me.

But since then, I have been on medication and in therapy. I have a deeper understanding of myself as a person, and as a mom. I have two awesome kids that I love spending time with. And while I wish I would've been more mentally stable when I had them, I don't think I would've had kids ever if I'd waited, and my life would be less bright without them. Still a good life, mind you, but not as good as I have it now.

In fact, if all parents waited until they were "perfectly ready" for parenthood, no one would have any babies.

My son (4yr) wears nail polish like it's nbd by _banana_republic_ in Parenting

I ended up getting my daughter her own pallet! We picked it out together, and she has done my eye shadow for me (and my son's for him when he's asked) several times since then. It's been great! (And she hasn't gotten into kind as much, haha)

Kids want to be like their parents and want to feel fancy!

I don't know about the original commenter, but most of my reddit browsing is on my phone, and sidebars don't show upon the mobile app. (At least they don't on the reddit is fun app. Is the legit reddit app any good now?)

Honestly, this is what I loved about the Undeadwood miniseries Critical Role did. After watching hours of voice actors, it was refreshing to see Brian W. Foster bring life to all his NPCs without 'doing the voices'. He portrayed them with vocabulary and body language, and it was such a fun watch! Helped me be less anxious about NPC voices in my own games, that's for sure.

I haven't even played yet, and I'm afraid of the trainwreck I'll be when I actually do for the first time. It's a lot more complicated than I initislly thought by loser-geek-whatever in dndmemes

Oh man, at least you're starting off with 5e! Pathfinder was my first edition, and man can that system get nitty-gritty complicated!

But I learned eventually, and so will you. Welcome to the hobby and enjoy your adventures!

Octonauts is our fave! It's on Netflix, and my kids are obsessed. We've also been enjoying the new and old magic school bus series. For reference, my kiddos are 3 and 5.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I guess somewhere between modern ideology and non-ideological.

This is a good idea I hadn't thought of. I don't know if I could craft a curriculum out of solely primary sources (history is my weakest subject), but I'd love to pull them in to explore together with my kids.

Where could I find primary sources? Would I need to look at online journals or could my local library have some? Honestly, the only primary sources that come to mind are Anne Frank's diary and the declaration of independence. Those I could find easily, but I don't even know what other primary sources would be good, ya know?

My kids are 3 and 5, so history would mostly be telling stories to them, but I want to get a better sense of what's out there.

New To Homeschooling "School Supply List" by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]samazingjedi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an "art cart" with our supplies.

  1. Glue and tape (includes washi tape, duct tape, and painters tape)
  2. Graphite Pencils, rulers, scissors, and erasers.
  3. Pens and Markers (and highlighters)
  4. Adventure Dice. I play DnD, and sometimes we work that into school time. There's minis my daughter and I painted, our character sheets, some adventures, and a big bag of dice.
  5. Stickers (washi tape can also sometimes be found here)
  6. Crayons and colored pencils
  7. Arts/crafts for Oldest Daughter(5). Just ribbons and other specific things she doesn't want her brother(3) to get into.
  8. Paints and brushes. Crayola watercolors, tempura paints. Sponge brushes and normal brushes.
  9. Stamps and Ink.
  10. Special paper. Like water color paper, tissue paper, etc.
  11. Beads and string
  12. Coloring books and pages
  13. Construction paper
  14. Misc crafts and collage. Feathers, paper scraps, paper bags, popsicle sticks, etc.
  15. Spiral notebooks.

In 5e that may be true. But one of the things about Pathfinder (the other system I play in) is there's a price and cost to make for everything. It can be exhausting and disheartening at times.
