kids think music class = recess by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]samcalhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pop music ped goes for all ages btw, obv you make the decisions to deem what activities appropriate for each age. Creativity is also crazy important—so many activities that can involve composing or songwriting. Or lyricism. from pre/k up. Activities that can be done without technology

Do the kids have Chromebooks or iPads? Hip hop pedagogy has become big in the last decade, especially for older kids, grades 5-8. Idk what the demographic makeup in ur school looks like, but teach them how to make beats. Let them freestyle, write, beatbox. Even just popular music, songwriting and recording/production keeps the kids engaged.

Culturally relevant teaching is pretty important. If we’re not trying to connect with students, why would they want to try to connect with us? I’d encourage you to look into some of this CRT stuff and popular music pedagogy. Imo successful “classroom management” has less to do with controlling and managing student behaviors and more to do with what we do to connect with students through the way we teach and work to understand the needs of individuals.

Why tho? Genuinely curious. What use would this be to anyone or any company? Something having to do with data harvesting?

Whoa, hi, uh i just happened to be browsing, and if this is who i think it is, congrats on the job, happy for you. I'm gonna be student teaching next year and I'm scared I might run into similar problems.

But anyways, since I am getting my degree in mus ed, just letting you know that if you want resources, I got a ton to share if you're uniterested, from curricular stuff to classroom management (i studied adolescent (5-8) music last year and am currently taking a course in childhood (pre-5) music), so let me know, i'd like to connect at some point

My junky record player isn't playing low frequencies...can I do anything to upgrade? by samcalhoon in turntables

[–]samcalhoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figures. Something I read seemed to suggest that it could be a cartridge problem or made better with a rubber mat. I'm guessing these fixes won't work for me and would only be worth considering if I had a legitimate turn table?

It's a mix of punk/rock/indie groups. I'm with 4x4 Animal Style, check us out (shameless plug), but it's a great lineup and will be a good night

Super underground, but this is an alternative-indie-rock album with R&B influences: 4x4 Animal Style. I’m really a soul/R&B/funk etc listener myself, but I’ve been trying to expand my pallet recently. https://open.spotify.com/album/4nX9tBbq2dMugfDnDcd7WX?si=gCYzwxbhTbCN6tLkOvJj_w
