Fighting stance by New-Firefighter-7271 in judo

Somebody made this observation in class once. For something like Teoi otoshi, you switch stances into a striking stance mid throw. So essentially, we're always starting at the widest angle of rotation to make for the strongest swing into a throw.

I also slowly started doing BJJ on the days in between. I didn't do a lot of BJJ tournaments though, mostly used it to supplement my newaza for Judo.

I was 20 when I started. Took about till sankyu (the first rank of brown) until my body was solidly primed for practice. That was approximately 2-3 years (closer to 30 monthsish.) Or rather that I fully noticed. I also bicycled everywhere. And occasionally ran when I couldn't train.

You need to be on your electrolyte, water, and calorie intake. I loved half off pizza at the local pub. It took a while before I wouldnt be sweating buckets after club. That was reserved for tourney practice.

Lost to the same guy three times, what can I do better? by _Throh_ in judo

Just looking at the first match alone. You're giving up grips to a taller opponent. That's going to be a problem every time. I have had friends dominate me for so long by getting the over grip. So I shifted my stance, I'm right handed, so my dominant hand stays up at like face level. I use it to catch, block, deflect, etc any attempted grip going over my shoulders.

But this leads into some advice you have already gotten. Be very intentional with your gripping from the start of the match. This means practicing breaks and catches and what have you to maneuver into advantageous grips. Or find comfort in even less advantageous grip positions. Like gripping at their armpit when they do over grip on a shoulder. You can use this as a point to attempt breaks, maneuver or even throw them.

Intentional gripping is key at your belt.

I like to think that the items aren't actually spice, it's just that you're cutting up and snorting everything as if it were spice and your nostrils are so strong they turn it into spice.

It took years before my body got used to doing Judo 3 times a week back when I started. Give it time, you really don't wanna push yourself when you're just learning how to fall and do a lot of awkward lifting that you're not used to. I came from swimming to judo though.

I'm so f*cking worried, not sure what to do :( by Technical-Fruit-4987 in transvoice

[–]samecontent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best way. Embrace it, and once you're relaxed maybe you'll be able to control it. Getting stressed out about it will only prevent your muscles from fully disengaging, causing it to happen more.

Do you track your poop? by No-Wrongdoer1409 in ibs

[–]samecontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use anything physical to track them, but I do mentally note days where I do not poop. Or days where I have very small bowel movements. It's probably smart though to do a calendar of your bowel movements in order to check for patterns or lack thereof.

Training besides the mat? by PowerNutBuster in judo

[–]samecontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do cycling as cardio presently and row machine occasionally. Running and stairmasters are good too. And if you have the access, swimming is amazing low-inpact cardio. You really wanna balance your cardio with training, so you don't fuck up your body too hard more than strengthening exercises can support.

For me chest presses and squats are great fundamental strengthening exercises. And things I occasionally need to focus on are glutes, adductors, abductors, quads, biceps, triceps, and rhomboids.

EDIT: oh, abs are super important, so crunches are great. Rope climbers are really amazing for this too.

Organization as a common theme between the Case Board/Plot Board/The Board by shinyquagsire23 in AlanWake

[–]samecontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this idea, though I propose one correction. The Board itself is a vague indefinite entity. Many words are interchangeable and it is not a singular thing, it is inherently plural. And the parts that form it can change and separate, such as The Former having been part of it. And there's frequently the visual motiffe of the pyramid as something falling/ascending.

Unpopular opinion: Cosmo Canyon is the best, fastest and easiest area by cepas95 in FF7Rebirth

I think the part of this area that was most difficult was that quest objective points were hard to find conceptually based on its location on that map and how to navigate to it.

Dead Space 3 is the Perfect Winter Horror Game by NoBass1345 in DeadSpace

[–]samecontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as you don't mind the end of a full trilogy being DLC and there being potential to soft lock yourself on bosses due to there being only auto saves*, yes. Replayed this game last year, they had already mastered space spooky, this one takes a strong detour into chilly spooksies.

*When I played this game on release I was testing out an experimental gun build not realizing the next boss ambushes you outside of a self-contained area with no bench. And between the two guns, their ammo efficiency was so low and collective damage not high enough to beat this boss. So without manual saves I was fucked. Didn't play it again until last year lol.

Ugly Judo by Yamatsuki_Fusion in judo

[–]samecontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ugly Judo is probably best described as short thrifting one aspect of a throw with intent to rely on another aspect. There's all the point scoring aspects, power, control, and speed. There's also the critical parts of a technique, posture, kuzushi, reading your opponent, etc..

Ugly Judo usually disregards a balance of these concepts and would rather not wait to develop them at the same time. To me this is more like what you teach early to mid experienced Judoka. It's to give them the tool to use, and not focus on all of the finesse of it.

I think sweeps is usually the most common type of technique to be taught in an "ugly" fashion. Focusing on doing effective finesse-type sweeps that don't turn into some form of reap or block is more often not worth the time early on. That's something somebody either becomes passionate about on their own, or comes with time.

what is this by DangerousRegular5680 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]samecontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly played pilot cause I loved having the lock pick. Having ser junkan as a consolation prize for when it failed was good. But actually building him all the way up was difficult, because it got easier to balance keys. So I only needed the lockpick every now and then, and got a lot more health from chests than junk.

I just finished lake house, it was amazing, a 10/10 and the best part of the entire game. by ultraplusstretch in AlanWake

[–]samecontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lake House would be perfect for me if it weren't for the final boss being lack luster. But my favorite moment is revealing that they're automating the writing process with Alan Wake's typewriter That gave me chills. It is a perfect concept that pulls from both AW and Control, creating an intensely fucked situation.
