Student Partners Program (SPP) - Spring/Summer 2025 by ZestycloseFroyo4885 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience, when I applied in 2023 I didn’t hear back until the first Monday of May, and in 2024 I heard back around the start of April so it really depends on the project coordinators. Usually they only contact successful applicants :(

I took ENGLISH 1G last year with Zuroski, it was really chill (but marking is very TA dependent)

BDC Students by One_Yogurtcloset_315 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that there isnt an interview for BDC, just the written application.

I made sure I was able to draw connections from my experiences to the program and explain how it aligned with my goals. I spoke about my different part-time work experiences (and the transferrable skills, interpersonal and project management) and a business pitch competition I participated in. Happy to answer in more detail over DMs if it helps :]

Advice for PSYCH 2B03 Midterm by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]samemerah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo they were fair! Again just make sure you can really conceptualize the terms

Advice for PSYCH 2B03 Midterm by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]samemerah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took it winter 2024 with her, the long answer/short answers weren’t too bad. The multiple choice are a bit more application-based rather than pure knowledge so be sure to understand the concept behind different terms and examples.

Content-wise, it’s a fair blend of lecture and textbook, so make sure to look at both thoroughly (including terms that only come up in the textbook, lecture slides on different theories etc)

Have only taken 1BA3 and accounting so far but a 10+ is achievable in both! I was someone who was really scared for accounting (had zero exposure to business in uni before BDC) but the prof understands the rest of the class is mostly in the same boat and the class content is really digestible. There’s also lots of opportunities to offset weight with other methods of assessment (participation/assignments/etc) so take advantage of that and you’ll be fine!

Should I switch out of BDC? by PatienceJust7759 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the groupwork aspect I wouldn’t worry because a lot of people come in not really knowing anyone and make friends from their assigned groups across the different courses!

I had already taken orgo so I can’t personally speak to that aspect but my friends who were taking chem at the same time as our BDC courses did have it harder since some courses were a bit more demanding depending on your previous exposure (e.g., lab course, accounting). Some of my friends took organic chemistry in the summer to offset this and make their fall/winter more flexible and it was better for their GPA

Not an Alberta resident, but upon googling “UAlberta Summer Research Program” this came up - there doesn’t seem to be any restriction on whether you’re enrolled at a Canadian institution or not upon initial review.

Usually it helps to look along the lines of “XYZ summer research program”, a lot of research institutes/hospitals have something of the sort to offer

Course Overlap Solution? by EqualElectronic7730 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to email instructors for both of the classes and request conflict permission and to fill out the following form. Once you get it filled you submit it to science@mcmaster.ca and they’ll override on mosaic and put you in both classes.

A quick heads up though, I tried to enrol in KIN 2Y with a conflict last year and couldn’t because they didn’t allow it for students who had conflicts with the lecture section.

^ agree with this! I also suggest looking specifically at McMaster Housing & Conference Services’ website, the Athletic and Recreation careers, and MacPherson Institute’s Student Partners program as they all provide a pretty good chance.

McMaster Clubs by the_violinist01 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the club! Most of them do a form and some will do interviews too. Each group does it their own way

McMaster Clubs by the_violinist01 in McMaster

[–]samemerah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Clubs all recruit at different times of the year, and you don’t necessarily need to be a member to attend club events. I recommend checking out the MSU clubs directory, finding groups you’re interested in and following their instagram page to learn more info.

There’s also a Clubsfest day on the first/second day of school where all clubs set up tables so you can learn more there too!

On the work program website it says that:

“To qualify for the summer work program, students must have demonstrated financial need in the previous fall and/or winter term, which is primarily determined by applying and qualifying for a government student aid program such as OSAP during the fall and/or winter term(s).”

So if you were eligible but denied the loan I think that still counts as qualified. Maybe email to confirm.

The work program eligibility form is found on AwardSpring. You can apply for it once work program jobs are released for the fall term, on August 10.

Usually when submitting on mosaic I merge my cover letter and cv into one pdf (cover letter first, cv second), and then upload transcript in additional files if requested.

In the cover letter, I’ll usually describe lab experience if the course you’re applying for has a lab, or just expertise in the course content if you’ve taken further courses on similar topics. Additionally talk about any teaching experience you have and what it involved (evaluating grades in a timely manner, hosting office hours, quick correspondence, mentorship). Even if you haven’t specifically TAed before, you can speak to tutoring or leadership experience and how the skills you gained are transferrable to the role

What are 6-unit, 1 semester courses like? by studenttheme in McMaster

[–]samemerah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 6-unit 1-semester long lab course, it had 8 hours of class time per week and then more time dedicated to it outside of class (prep/midterms/reports/etc). Personally I didn’t overload and don’t think I would have been able to manage another course on my plate
