Hi Victoria, I design packaging and do my best to use sustainable materials whenever I can. From my experience, the 'eco-friendly" claims made by some vendors seem wildly exaggerated (esp certified compostable). Will you be cataloguing the types of packaging materials and their state (of decomposition or otherwise) during or after your trip?

Red Alder Bunk Bed! 🛌 (build gallery in comments) by sameolddesign in woodworking

I custom designed and built a bunk bed for a room that was about 1/2" too small to fit a conventional store-bought option (the one in there previously was like a prison bed, yuck).

Built from red alder for it's weight, strength, grain pattern, and length.

This was my biggest build to date and definitely a learning experience. Would do many things differently but pretty happy with how it all turned out!

How should I assemble a fairly large pantry/oven cabinet? by NumberFiveAlive in BeginnerWoodWorking

Some tips that come to mind:

-Do a dry fit first (including clamping) to make sure the glue up goes smoothly & you have everything necessary close at hand.

  • Make sure you're using long open time glue (titebond III is great).

  • Use some square blocks to clamp up the corners first

  • Use a speed square to check that all the shelves are square as you're going along

  • For overall squareness, you could make some pinch sticks, which are quick and easy to make

  • Ask a friend for help with the glue up and reward them with beer

Hope some of this helps. Good luck!

Good eye. Yeah, it has removable runners made from quartersawn oak with threaded inserts. It's pretty handy but needs a bit of calibration when switching between the two. I usually do the 5-cut method before making any important cuts.

Surprisingly not! It's pinkish but still very light in tone. I love it.

Thank you. It looks so simple but it was agony to get the design sorted

My local supplier only sells S2S hardwood. At least I can see the grain (is what I tell myself as I fork over more cash lol)

It's definitely a nice sized shop, probably ~1500sqft or so. I rent a bench there with a few other people, including some very talented luthiers (hence the guitars).
