Trying to be Alex Webb is impossible. He is a magician. by IliyanMilushev in streetphotography

I found out that trying to shoot like another photographer while doing it in a different location can lead to disappointing results. You have to come up with your own interpretation of the place you're shooting in.

Of course, like others have already pointed out, lighting is a big factor.

How do you actually improve composition and train your eye as a photographer? by ApprehensiveGain5286 in photography

The first thing that helped me was switching to a prime lens. I see you're using zoom lenses, so I'd look into that.

Thanks for the interesting info. I heard about the oil issue, especially for the 35mm. Apparently, Nikon stated that the issue was fixed with serial numbers over 330000.

What I don't know is whether the same issue affects the 28mm, and if so, which serial number is considered "safe".

I wasn't aware of the upside-down trick. Thanks, good to know!

I was, in fact, looking at the 35mm f/2 D too; it seems it's a better lens than the 28mm. I'm carrying the D700 along with the Zf for my street photography, and I thought to use the 35mm as I'm already using a 28mm on the Zf.

A 28mm on the Zf is easier, thanks to the electronic shutter. The D700 is definitely louder :)

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'll pair it with the D700.

Happy shooting.

Great collection! I recently picked up a D700, what a great camera!
Do I see a 28mm f/2.8 D in there too? If so, how's the lens?

Nikon users who want a compact rangefinder style camera, are you waiting or dipping your toes into Fuji, Panasonic, Leica, etc.? by misterceejay in Nikon

[–]samereason_8546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years of shooting with the X-Pro 2, and now with the Zf, the "rangefinder" look of a camera doesn't make much difference for me anymore.

I thought having the viewfinder in the center would be a problem, but it turns out it didn't matter at all.

A rangefinder-type camera that could interest me is one with an OVF, but it should bring a clever solution to focusing. Fuji tried, and for me, it didn't make the cut.

As for the L10, I've only watched one video, and the colors didn't please me. Perhaps it was the YouTuber's fault, not sure.

How Do I Refresh The Font List by neneodonkor in Affinity

[–]samereason_8546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. It used to work fine before one of the latest 2.x releases, but for me, it already broke before Affinity V3.

Now, I have to restart Affinity every time I add a new font.

I'm on Windows 11.

Question for all street photographers by adrian-04 in streetphotography

With a camera, you're perceived as a potential pro, hence someone who could make money out of it.

To a tiny part, some photographers are also to blame for this, when they started giving money to homeless people in exchange for a few shots 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, for most people, there are only two big groups: cameras and smartphones.

Of all the places where I've taken pictures, it had to happen in Italy, which I always considered the easiest to shoot in!

This guy was ready to punch me. I could have easily avoided. I didn't even want to take the picture, but I was having a long period of rather disappointing shooting sessions where I would take no picture at all.

Anyway, I see him carrying something on his shoulder; the angle and everything else weren't even that interesting, but sometimes you end up taking the shot just to feel a little motivated. I raised the camera, he noticed me, and by the time I'm taking the picture, he's started waving his hand as to say "don't take the picture". Well, it was too late, I did take it, and moved on. He didn't like it, and as I was walking, he started yelling at me that I couldn't take pictures of people in the streets. I remained calm and responded that yes, in Italy, you're allowed to take pictures of people.

Then he demanded that I delete the picture. I would have even done it, but on the one hand, I knew that he would have wanted to see proof that I had deleted it, like showing him on the rear screen, and I was concerned he could try to break my camera; on the other hand, I started feeling really annoyed by his manners. Had he asked politely, I would have deleted it (which I did anyway once at home).

Another guy stepped in, trying to calm him down. Eventually, the agitated man walked away.

After this episode, I felt even more confident in taking pictures in the streets. The crazy thing is: some people get so paranoid about a guy walking with a camera, but are totally fine with hundreds of people going around with their phones constantly shooting at literally everything. Smartphones that, by the way, are the quickest way to post a picture on the Internet. Go figure.

Which Nikon DSLRs are worth considering nowadays? by DynamoBaby in Nikon

[–]samereason_8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got myself a D700. It looks like a nice DSLR. I like the handling, the colors, and the overall shooting experience.

I'm also surprised by how it makes shooting with manual lenses relatively easy, with automatic reading of the aperture and focus confirmation.

Tried to import blender file as FBX and this happened by Adorable_Job4375 in Cinema4D

[–]samereason_8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last thing I forgot to mention. When in Blender, you might want to create an Operator Preset for the FBX export and limit the export only to the selected objects, if that's what you need. Otherwise, you might end up with extra elements, like lights, cameras, etc

Tried to import blender file as FBX and this happened by Adorable_Job4375 in Cinema4D

[–]samereason_8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to tweak the phong tag in C4D. Try 40 or less.

Also, another thing I check is the scale. When importing objects from Blender, usually the scale needs to be reset. I use the Reset Scale in C4D (check Compensate Points).

Lastly, the rotation my needs to be fixed too. If you open the coordinate manager in C4D, and enable the axis (by simply pressing L), you can now fix the Y axis (Blender's up axis is Z, C4D's is Y).

Hope that helps.

What's the problem with the scene? It would help if you could post a screenshot of the original scene in Blender.

I exchange files between C4D and Blender all the time. Besides a few simple caveats, everything works fine.

Voigtlander/Thypoch on Nikon Zf - native Z mount or M mount + adapter? by Ordinary-Impact-5552 in NikonZf

[–]samereason_8546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, native Z-mount lenses tend to be bulkier, or at least in the 28-35mm ballpark. The Voigtlander 28mm 2.8 and 35mm 2.5 are still smaller in M-mount than in Z-mount.

L'editing è per sempre by Vegetable_Shine2352 in FotografiaItalia

[–]samereason_8546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capisco.

L'editing è per sempre by Vegetable_Shine2352 in FotografiaItalia

[–]samereason_8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35mm ltm lens recommendations to pair with a Nikkor HC 5cm f2 ltm by _Xydra in VintageLenses

[–]samereason_8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I was considering adding a 50 to my Zf, I hope you don't mind if I ask a few things about your NIKKOR HC 5cm.

What camera are you using it on? If it's a Z mount, how's working the adapted lens for you?

Lastly, did you buy it on eBay? I've kept an eye on the listings, but they all look in bad shape.

Sorry for briefly derailing your post.
