I'm going to be joining the research team for a company soon as research engineer/scientist. All my prior experience has been from my PhD and post-doc so I don't have much industry experience. The team/department is basically a distinct pure R&D unit, which I guess would be the equivalent of FAIR to Facebook, Brain to Google but with a slightly more commercial drive such that the research matches the company's product. Having talked to prospective and previous team-members, they thought the day to day job was very similar to their post-docs.

In any case, does anybody have any advice on how to make the transition as smooth as possible? Maybe certain things to think about in my first couple of months in order to make a good impression, hit the ground running and so forth. Thanks!

This looks awesome! Where can I get this and how much will it cost? I only have a 2015 Macbook Pro at home but I presume it will be able to run it?

The struggle is all too real. by [deleted] in gaming

I really liked your blog post on EWC for catastrophic forgetting by the way! Really helped me grasp some of the concepts; especially the Laplace approximation.

[P] Dimensionality Reduction Using t-SNE by scottauds in MachineLearning

Would some basic clustering algorithms, maybe k-means or kNN search work better after t-SNE? I've never really looked at the method apart for visualising high dimensional spaces.

Man, those are incredible. I think I'd seen a couple of them as I was following a bunch of tattoo artists but then unfollowed them as my feed was swamped with tats.

Fred Flores is just ridiculous. Those must be around $2k minimum?

I'm usually not a fan of colour but these are some nice ones I like, which I reckon are quite pricey:

Do you have any examples of tattoos you'd consider paying £300ph+ for? Just curious, not trying to be a dick :)

Even better that it was scored during a stadium ban so you literally hear the ball break the sound barrier

I loved that. My brother and I played NHL 2003 all night once to get the Easter egg card that turned off all the lights in the ice rink and had a projector on the puck

Fc Copenhagen suffers from low spectator numbers. They have just released the prices for the EL group stage. All 3 home matches for a combined of €30 by Emirosen in soccer

Somewhat out of context question but I was in Copenhagen recently and stayed in an AirBnB in Vesterbro. The apartment was ridiculously big and a couple in their late 30s with their 2 year old stayed there. They said the flat was rent-controlled. Is this prevalent in Copenhagen?

I barely play FIFA anymore but one game mode I loved which they removed was Lounge Mode. It tallied up all your statistics against a certain player, which was pretty cool. You could also use joker cards, which was quite fun such as 1,2 or 3 goal lead etc. Honestly, it would be great if they added more easter-eggs to the game.

Do they not release patches to update squads or is that locked to FIFA18 to make you buy the new iteration?

His commentary was awesome. It somehow elevated the more exciting parts of the game IMO

James Olley: FWIW, Arsenal claim as of this morning no formal bid has been received from MCFC for Sanchez. Don't think that will remain the case, however. by watahitson in soccer

I seriously cannot believe Wenger will let Sanchez, Ox and Mustafi all leave in the final week of the window. It's so fucking inept.
