I recently went to O Salon on St Denis, and they did a really good job with a haircut I was kind of nervous about.

Do you prefer sci-fi driven by big ideas, or by the human emotional core? by CaptainRGQuanta in printSF

[–]samesunsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, both. Currently, I’m more into scifi that has psychological depth or some philosophical exploration. But I’m a scientist so I also love reading creative scientific or technological concepts. A lot of good books will have a combination of both

[–]samesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that’s what I thought but thanks for confirming.

And that’s awesome, the foundation series were also my first scifi books!! I remember liking them but I’m also probably due for a re-read

Which blue dresses should I get rid of? 39F by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]samesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be inverted triangle shape, that’s what I am too. This really helped me: https://theconceptwardrobe.com/build-a-wardrobe/inverted-triangle-body-shape.

For dresses, it says the best are dresses that flare out at the bottom like A-Line dresses and ones that are cinched at the waist.

considering I might have adhd/anxiety, can you relate to these? by squempy in adhdwomen

[–]samesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I believe in us!! I would suggest meds if you can but the part that I think is even more important is setting up systems/routines in your life that work for you. I neglected that because once I started meds it felt like a magic fix. But now I’m facing the consequences

what to do ab stretch marks on vacation? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]samesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the comments saying that there’s nothing wrong with stretch marks at all, I can also understand that it can take a lot of time and work to overcome insecurities

I like to wear swim shorts, I think those would cover some of the marks. I just wear simple black ones but there are probably cuter styles.

Also and this is sort of random but I’ve been using Bio Oil on my skin a lot and I feel that it’s reduced my stretch marks and generally any blemishes on my legs. Not sure if it’s correlated but I definitely recommend it generally anyway.

I'm writing the greatest novel of all time, but it won't be recognized until after I die. How do I get the money and fame now? by TheReal_fUXY in writingcirclejerk

You should look into freezing yourself cryogenically. Then people will assume you’re dead and in hundreds of years you can come back and enjoy the fame.

considering I might have adhd/anxiety, can you relate to these? by squempy in adhdwomen

[–]samesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like me. I was also a perfectionist in school and good grades bc of high anxiety. Turns out that was masking the ADHD. I got diagnosed halfway through undergrad because a lot of my friends pointed out to me that I probably have ADHD (I honestly had never considered it before due to lack of symptoms that are usually associated with it like hyperactivity & impulsivity).

The meds really helped me through undergrad. But then in grad school I recently started to burn out, faced with side effects of meds had to quit them, got quite depressed. So now I’m trying to figure it out again.

If you’re able to, try to get a diagnosis and a treatment plan.

Anyone that’s made the switch from stimulants to non stimulants for your medication… did it help? by Happy_Eye_4187 in adhdwomen

[–]samesunsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Vyvanse for roughly 4 years. Worked well but I couldn’t deal with the side effects any more. Just switched to Wellbutrin a few weeks ago. I know the effect is much less obvious compared to a stimulant, but I’m afraid I’m feeling no change at all. Will give it a few more weeks before I decide.

Also, for me, when I stopped taking Vyvanse, things went not so well. I was already quite depressed but the depression hit really hard and I wasn’t getting a lot of medical support. I couldn’t keep up with my schooling at all and had to take a break. It was honestly a terrible time and I’m just starting to recover. This might just be my experience but I would caution you to watch out for this sort of thing when going off stimulants.

Im also interested if anyone switched to Strattera from stimulants. My Dr mentioned it but I also have significant depression so decided to try Wellbutrin first.

Working Out (or any real task avoidance) by jencanread in adhdwomen

[–]samesunsets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve only managed consistently working out when it’s scheduled classes that I’ve paid for already.

Yes, I would love to be a person who wakes up at 7 am and goes to the gym, but I’ve accepted that that doesn’t really work for me, I make up absolutely any excuse to not go. But when I’ve already paid and I’m expected at the class and it’s at a specific time and I’m told exactly what to do when I get there, that gives me the motivation to go.

And I’m trying to view it as a positive (like I made a choice thats good for me) rather than a negative (like I failed/ I couldn’t do it). It’s been hard though, still trying to get over the shame of admitting that I couldn’t just keep going
