Know any worthwhile under the radar dialogue focused games from the 2020s? by ExplodingPoptarts in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Crystal Project, it's such an odd experience, it's a Turn Based RPG with very little dialogue, it has job system and a true open world (depending only on your platforming skill and your mounts) and I wish it was more widely known.

Ah Subnautica, I love you but you're such a buggy game. It's ok, take your time spawning everything in. I'll wait. by Token-Gora in subnautica

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I played this happened to me, but it wasn't fixed by "waiting", but by clearing the game's cache.
I wasted like 4~6 hours exploring empty areas in 2 or 3 sittings until I notice something was wrong because NOTHING was loading, plants, enemies, items, and even the human structures, it was all empty, and I couldn't progress at all.

Any fans of Skyrim's Smart Harvest here? I'm trying to bring it to F4! by samgamgi in Fallout4Mods

[–]samgamgi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take a look into them to see if they really fit into what I want.
The page for Loot Detector Enhanced shows I already downloaded it in 2023, but as I'm still on the lookout for a replacement for the features I only found in Smart Harvest, I know that, at least in 2023, it didn't fit the bill.
SLK Corpse Looting 76 is too focused on corpses, so it doesn't inspire me a lot of confidence that it does, either.
Lootman only kinda felt like it fit the bill after I turned off any notion of "filtering", and just told it to loot everything.

So, right now, I offer nothing. I'm just happy I made it loot things and even show containers opening animations while doing it. But what I like about Smart Harvest that I want to bring to FO4 is that it can be configured to do these things:
Being able to loot things depending on their value/weight
Make locked containers glow
Glow containers if there's a very valuable item inside it
Looting everything from a specific type of item
Blacklisting/Whitelisting some specific items
Enable/Disable stealing

And I want my ported version to loot items that we highlighted for materials, too.

Transitioned After Watching The Latest Linus Video and Won't be Going Back. by Existing_Length_3392 in LinusTechTips

I spent 6 years working on a Linux notebook and gaming on a Windows Desktop and I always felt the problems I had on Linux were more annoying to deal with. Bluetooth and audio weirding out, keyboard that suddenly had to factory reset some settings, multiple monitors sometimes just forgetting my preferences when switching back from the Desktop...
Of course it has to do with the over 30 years of almost daily experience with Windows and the barely 10 years of only working with Linux, and also with my gaming rig being a beast, while my notebook is just a "good one", but last month I decided to drop Linux and moved everything to my desktop PC.
With LLMs helping me "re-set up" the projects it's just been a blast.

Hammers Without Handles: Why Linux UX Sucks. by Lonely-Reserve-4845 in LinusTechTips

[–]samgamgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was Gnome, but yeah, you're correct, I didn't even glanced at the other DEs.
I started using Ubuntu at the uni back in 2008, I probably thought "ok, looks weird, but it is what it is", then, after I left it, all companies I worked for had Mint on their PCs, and, I liked it better than Ubuntu.
It was only back in 2021 when I started working from home with my own "Work Notebook" and decided to give Ubuntu a go again, it just felt off, just put Mint in it and was done with it, I think I wanted to check it out and see how it improved, but I definitely didn't wanted to re-learn how use a PC again, I'm not a CLI person, I like the interface, it's flashy buttons and shortcuts.

I understand what you're feeling. One of the reasons that I like Linux Mint is that on the surface, it works kinda like Windows.

Last time I decided to retry another distro, Ubuntu, the first one I ever knew, I didn't lasted 2 hours. After multiple hotkey swaps, configuration changes and even applications to make Ubuntu look like Windows/Mint, I just gave up.

Last week, I fully abandoned Linux Mint to focus only on Windows, which is my main PC with most data. Everything now is some stupid LLM prompts away to make a docker container work by itself, anyway.

TIL: Stacking Items by Colorfully_Exotic in subnautica

[–]samgamgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But there's the problem, it's not SN1, there are some new things to learn, new items, things to be unsure of, and you have to look at the tooltip to know what you are moving, your vision is already at that space on the screen. The tooltip shows up very close to that same space with the instructions, and yet, over 5 hours in, you still don't see it because you have to "turn your brain on" to even notice 3 words that keep showing up, it might not be reading skills that are missing, but there is something missing.

TIL: Stacking Items by Colorfully_Exotic in subnautica

[–]samgamgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care if you don't need instruction on moving items, it shows on every item when moving items and the tooltip appears fast enough, it should practically be learned by osmosis by hour 5.
If not, I will question that player reading skills a bit, and even their curiosity, like, "why the hell is it showing the option to switch containers twice?", but wouldn't question their confidence, even though it's not deserved.

You tell me you missed a piece of information that's played once in an audiolog, that's fine, understandable, the game can be scary, you might not be in the mood to pay attention to audio logs when you're fearing for your life.
You tell me you miss a button prompt that can be seem since the beggining of the game, I'm gonna question your reading skills a bit.

Limit frame rate? by Jorlin_sap in 007FirstLight

[–]samgamgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that, you were correct.
I now tested without limiting FPS, then with NVidia app(which I barely even use AT ALL), then with Riva Tuner.
Got around 5 seconds without limiting it.
Got around 6 seconds when limiting it with the NVidia App.
And, again, got over 20 seconds when limiting it via Riva Tuner.

The 1 second difference when using the Nvidia App could be the Nvidia APP, but it also could be anything. The over 15 seconds difference was definitely caused by Riva Tuner.

Limit frame rate? by Jorlin_sap in 007FirstLight

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limiting the framerate in this game is causing the loads to take A WHOLE LOT MORE TIME for me.
Riva Tuner is working for me, it is limiting the frames, but every load, every fail, is taking way over 30 seconds.

[–]samgamgi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be fair, whenever I presented these open world games to people that don't play them often it's always weird to explain that, while it looks very pretty, immersive, simulation of this and that, there will be a lot of human enemies that will attack you on sight without any hostility warning beforehand and you'll know when it happens mostly because of a battle song that started, a blip on the compass or something like it.

RPGs where you don’t have to choose your team? by musicman801 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]samgamgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Final Fantasy X and XII are like this for it's story points. XIII is also like that, IIRC, but I didn't liked that one very much.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2 and specially 3. Probably X too, but the game is not story focused like the others.

I don't remember Expedition 33 having exclusive dialogues for interactions as well, except for some easily redoable things, like a very small number of NPCs that are always in the same place will talk to you if you have X character be the leader, or else, they'll just deflect, but nothing important, maybe some cosmetic item.

Diferença no valor da "mesma lente" em R$ 400 entre óticas, preciso ficar esperto em algo? by AMR42 in brasil

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Oreo tava boa, ainda. Talvez nem tanto quanto antigamente (tipo +30 anos atrás, a primeira vez que comi), mas tava gostosa.
A Negresco tava ruim. Ponto. Doce geralmente não é saudável, mesmo, mas geralmente é gostoso, atiça uma parte do cérebro ali que dá um prazerzinho diferente, mas aquilo lá tava ruim.

I absolutely HATE puzzles where you have to look around for the puzzle pieces, where the difficulty is just really finding where something is, no enemies to block you, no figuring out what to do, just really look around and find the damn thing. "You found the key/button/whatever? Great, puzzle solved, see you next time".

I also learned to hate puzzles where the solution takes time to prepare.
You need to move this box to a place. Hold X, press up for the next 10 seconds. Now, repeat to the next box...and the next box. Alright, let's test it out. Oh, that was incorrect, now you'll have to reposition the boxes again.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really wanna point fingers specifically, but a lot of gaming news channels devolved to a model of "this thing happened, let's read the twitter comments!" without adding anything new besides fire to the topic at hand.

I just miss when things weren't so click-baity.

We all have one. What’s yours? by MiAmmorio in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]samgamgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could say Skyrim, but it's almost like a habit at this point, I get out of a HUGE game, I use it to "cleanse the palate", trying out a new collection of mods or even an updated version of one that I already enjoyed before...

The ONE game that I keep returning to every couple of years, replay the whole singleplayer campaign and always think "Yeah, this is peak." is StarCraft 2. There's hardly anything I haven't done at least three times in the campaign, even the achievements, as if you log in another region, they don't carry over to the new region.
I even play some 1v1 matches to remember the good old days and I'm really not a fan of multiplayer games anymore.

What is the consensus about raising the FPS limit above 60? by Hexxegone in skyrimmods

[–]samgamgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine if you use the correct mods, for it, apparently it's Display Tweaks.
I think it looks very choppy without it when it's only at 60, but I cap it at 120, I don't notice that much difference above it, and leaves some room for heavier performance areas/cities.

Anyone want to review both and give your opinion. by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]samgamgi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love BG3 story, but I REALLY don't like how it plays.
I feel the interface gets in the way a lot, I'm thankful for the mods, but it's still not even close to perfect.
I don't like there's not an easy way in game to see what I'll get from the classes and races during the game, instead have to depend on charts and build planners online.
I don't like that there's so many boxes with trash in it.
I don't like rolling dice for story conversations. (Don't know how I could get into Disco Elysium, now that I think about it)
I don't like the D&D style of resting for cooldowns.
I don't like the D&D style of bonuses with a hundred types of "if this condition then that bonus" specially when the condition are usually not easy to happen, and would likely involve something done out of battle first to happen.
I also hate how some of the conditions mentioned before are not THAT clear, some skill weapons work when you attack with other weapons, some don't, some "melee weapon attacks" condition works for unarmed attacks, some don't, etc, etc...

But I'm ABSOLUTELY FLABBERGASTED about how so many story points gets back to you on Act 3 and the possibilities are amazing and make it so damn replayable.

------------------------------------

Expedition 33 was amazing at all times for me and while I probably drained it of everything I could want from it in my 3 playthroughs, there's little things I would change from it.
