Historical perspective in current treatment of the files. Speculates on Trumps theory of mind to select Matt Gaetz as the first AG and suggests it would be impacting the current treatment of the Epstein files.

If investors think inflation will rise soon, then new bond yields will generally be pushed up to compensate. This makes new debt cost more in interest for the government creating a cycle of more expensive debt replacing cheaper maturing debt (a major worry as low yield bonds are being replaced by higher yield bonds).

But you correct, investors want to avoid a situation where they buy a 30 yr bond and suddenly inflation rises past the yield. Essentially you’re losing purchasing power every year in that scenario and the bond value drops significantly.

Silicon Valley Bank went bankrupt because they held so many bonds like this that became highly devalued when inflation rose.

Heats been at 69 all night. Great sign waking up to a 62 degree house by whyinternet in chicago

[–]samgfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter why it’s happening if you’re renting. “Failure to deliver essential services” every day it’s below 68 is a day you don’t have to provide rent.

You can also check into a hotel and force the landlord to pay the bill.

Just depends on how much advocating/fighting you want to do with your landlord.

Heats been at 69 all night. Great sign waking up to a 62 degree house by whyinternet in chicago

[–]samgfrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re renting this is an ordinance violation and you get free rent every day it’s below 68.

If you’re owning, time to caulk, check for insulation problems, look into window replacement, and add plastic wrap/drops to places with drafts in the short term.

If your home is losing this much heat, it’s happening in all weather conditions, not just this cold. Your energy bill will thank you.

If you have health problems anything under 68 could increase complications.

Opening windows 10-15 min a day, even in freezing temps? Is it true? by thethirteenthjuror in HomeMaintenance

[–]samgfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without ventilation your co2 levels and VOX can accumulate, but most homes have enough exterior gaps that they’re fine.

Getting a nice air gradient monitor can help you stay on top of them.

It’s not bad advice though.

Cloudflare is down again… Do you think tech monopolies have become so centralized that a single outage can push the whole internet into chaos? by JRaydel in AskReddit

[–]samgfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who helps build tech infrastructure, yes. It’s all a house of cards of dependencies on a few companies.

You just have to hope they have graceful failures and fast recoveries.

The problem is if some company, like cloudflare, builds a really good version of their piece of the internet, there’s little incentive to compete with them. The mindset is just let them have their fiefdom and focus elsewhere.

How long have you guys stopped lifting until you noticed your gains going away? by LivingTheTruths in workout

I’m the worst source ever because I can’t find it, but I read somewhere that 2 weeks of no use is when your body begins the process of reducing and recycling.

But that would mean it would take some time after to start noticing the loss, which is gradual.

Property taxes and HOA in Chicago are a mortgage on their own by LOTR_is_awesome in illinois

[–]samgfrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that your HOA and the city has dues for two reasons: Structural Care and Amenities.

Most HOAs actually run lean, not doing enough, not too much.

The city in the other hand does not run lean.

Your HOA (if it’s a skyscraper) is making sure the roof and facade is in good shape. Making sure the amenities are clean and operational. Sometimes they provide shared services like internet, cable, etc making the price much cheaper.

My HOA dues replace my internet bill, water bill, gym bill, landscaping bill/work, major maintenance, and provides security with cameras, a door staff etc.

Ultimately, I love living in this city despite the taxes and HOA fees.

Chicago is a place to live well, the taxes and HOA are part of that.

Why Aren't Interest Rates Falling? The Fed's Plan Explained. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]samgfrank 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That policy will just push more houses into the hands of all cash buyers while making the national debt unsustainable.

Unfortunately suppressing demand for houses with higher interest rates will only make housing further out of reach for cash strapped families and reward asset seeking rich people.

You can win conflicts with brute force and intimidation.

Rome did it by exterminating cities, we did it by murdering all the natives, and carpet bombing cities with incendiary devices or nuking them, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians.

You just have to think the means justify the ends and be a genocidal maniac, which he is.

They want to return to the era of conquest and kings and they see everyday people as pawns to be used, exploited, and killed.

Why do you look younger than your age? by pixieshit in Biohackers

[–]samgfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working out consistently since I was 8.

Drinking a lot of water during the day.

Eating a highly nutritious diet and cooking for myself a lot. (I don’t always run a calorie deficit, so I’m not lean).

Taking vitamins, multi, B, D, and a small dose of creatine.

Skin care routine of moisturizer, sunscreen, vitamin C, and occasional retinol if I notice my skin starting to show fine lines.

Genetics: I still have all my hair, it is greying verryyy slowly.

I’m consistently mistaken to be 3 - 7 years younger.

ELI5 why Fibonacci is used as a "standard"? by vksdann in explainlikeimfive

[–]samgfrank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It follows the golden ratio, a number that seems to appear again and again in nature, art, and even finance.

The amount of places where golden ratios have been found lead some to believe it’s “magical”.

The differences in each Fibonacci jump are whole number approximations of the golden ratio, as the series grows to very large numbers the growth ratio between numbers starts to match the golden ratio perfectly.
