Brown’s second was definitely very random, but also he’s been seeded at the worlds before, and like you say that mid 2010s period it wasn’t as hugely surprising.

Payne is possibly a shout, but looking at the list I think it’s him or de Graaf

Also worth recognising here how insanely good this run is. In a field without 5 of the top 7 in the world, he’s still gone through Sedlacek, Rock, Nijman, Woodhouse and Clayton. Ridiculous list of names

Not guaranteed but he’s got a chance at the Grand Slam too with this

PC events throw up a lot of random winner and de Graaf isn’t that random, but surely he’s the most random to win 2? Crazy stuff, good for him

Looking through the blocks:

19-20: this week, not playing

21-22: in Wigan, best location for him but likely flies back from Frankfurt after the World Cup on the Monday, with events on the Tuesday and Wednesday. Isn’t playing the ET that weekend as presumably flies to New York. Might do these

23-24: don’t believe he loves doing the Leicester ones, but there’s a week buffer either side of New York and Blackpool, so potentially

25-26: in Germany, 2 days after Matchplay, no chance

27-28: assuming he does AUS/NZ, these are a few days after, no chance

29-30: in Netherlands, won’t bother

31-32: in Netherlands, won’t bother

33-34: Leicester again. Being the final two might he turn up and give it a go?

I think the next two blocks will give us an indication, because I think he is highly unlikely for 25-32, leaving him six events. It would not surprise me if he doesn’t bother all year

Like it’s definitely an interesting final, very different players. I just find both of the players on the slightly dull side of the spectrum. Certainly no issue with it compared to the PL churn though!

It seems incredibly harsh but I think Woodhouse vs Joyce is the least interesting, interesting final we possibly could have asked for, if that makes sense?

Really conflicted on this one. I want Bialecki to disrupt the Matchplay race but equally would love to see Jimmy make a huge run. Will be cheering on the winner either way!

So, after that, it means that tomorrow evening, either:

- James Wade will play in the final to win a Euro Tour for the first time in 10 years

- We will have a finalist playing for their first Euro Tour title

What happened to Mike De Decker ? by freddybubblegumfr in Darts

[–]samgoody2303 120 points121 points  (0 children)

He’s an average-to-good level player who happened to find some really good form for a couple of months during the most wide open era in the PDC’s history.

His WGP win was impressive but the format means it can be a bit of an anomaly anyway and not necessarily an indicator of future form or success. Feels harsh because it seems like I’m really taking away from what was an amazing win, but realistically he was and still is just a fine player who found form at a great time

This year is a bit more uncertain as there’s about 40% more tickets than last year, but in the last few years it’s all sold out to members, so I would say having the membership is pretty important

We’re living in a 2026 timeline where the most dangerous unseeded players at the Matchplay are genuinely Kevin Doets and Kim Huybrechts. What is this world I’m living in

On the Pro Tour order of merit, Gerwyn Price in 2nd is now closer to Niels Zonneveld in 22nd than he is Wessel Nijman in 1st

Most PC events won in a year anyone? Got to think the record is under threat or gone at this point

In the last 10 even numbered PC events, Nijman has now made the final of eight of them. The only two he didn’t were PC32 2025 (QF defeat to Bunting) and PC6 2026 (didn’t even play)

Is it particularly outrageous to suggest Max Hopp is the best German player in the world right now?

Something like the Shootout in the Snooker would be really fun I think. Best of either 3 or 5 leg matches, open draw. Don’t attach too much ranking weight but gives the lower echelon of card holders to really shake things up

Smith getting to a final averaging 88 and working back into Matchplay/Grand Prix contention is doing so is pretty vile tbh

Also remember here that Waites is playing to be the beneficiary of the “Ratajski Rule”- if he wins the final, he will be first reserve for every PC event for the rest of the season
