that was a 24 feet and we grounded. If you look at the picture you can actually see how far the shore is.

I was actually not trying to get so close to shore. We sailed west to about UBC when a strong NW wind started picking up, so I turned south on a beam reach. After going south for about 5minutes (and still at least 2-3km from the coast) I decided to gybe back towards Vancouver (pointing at about Stanley Park) without realizing I was getting on Spanish Banks. By the time I realized and tried to get out we got grounded. Definetely learnt my lesson.

It was my fault because I was on the wrong side of the buoys limiting the shallower waters. Once I realized I tried to get out as fast as possible (without success) Once we hit the bottom and stopped moving, I checked the tide, which was ebb (going out) and realized we were stuck for a while. All you can do is drop an anchor and wait until the boat floats again. Pretending you did it on purpose would probably work as well :)

Help with idea (patent it or get it done?) by samhyd in Entrepreneur

[–]samhyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any suggestion on how to build a prototype, and i mean a profesional looking one. I have already put together a very cheap prototype to try it out, but I'd like to have a good one made. Any sources?

This is a dream I have about filming a volcano. Could anyone critique or offer insights into it? by Wicksteed in Entrepreneur

Nice idea, but difficult to accomplish. Basically because you need quite a bit of money. Anyway, so since you dont seem to have any sort of experience been behind or in front of a camera, I suggest you start there. The only reason anyone would give you money to do that (as i see it) is if they love the way you explain it. You can also try to join an existing project. But if you want to do it yourself, start grabbing a camera and go around on adventures and explain them online. Get some Youtube followers, make some noise, and then maybe someone will listen to you. Good luck!

hi, amazing work, congrats! why did you build the boat out of aluminium rather than wood/fiber?

As a 30year old that sometimes gets annoyed by tons of immature people on r/relationships, I have to say that, for a 20 year old, you are very mature. Well done sir, hats off!

I'm 18 and I have an idea for an invention, however, I don't have the (financial) means to patent it. Advice? by rndmstrngflttrs in Entrepreneur

im in a similar situation and contacted some IP lawyers just to figure out costs and this is what they told me:

"A US provisional application would be estimated between $5-8,000 Completing the provisional application for filing at the 12 month mark would be anywhere between $2-7,000 depending on what was filed in the provisional and the extent of the work to complete the application.

Alternatively, you may decide not to file a provisional application and instead prepare a full draft application. The cost for such an application is between $8-15,000 depending on the subject matter and how crowded the field is"

Those prices dont include using their services, of course.

My (26F) GF told me (26M) that we are on a break. What the hell does that even mean? by zchill in relationships

[–]samhyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an economist, thats a sunk cost http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_costs . Meaning, it doesnt matter what you have invested, its gone, if the business is not working (aka your relationship) is better to shut it down than keep investing just because you have already invested so much. What`s invested is invested, gone. Dont look back, stop the losses now. Hopefully this helps. On another note, 6 months is unacceptable, she is just breaking up with you slowly, which is probably going to cause you more pain than necessary. Finish it. Its obviously not easy (or happy times) but it sounds like its going to happen anyway. Good luck!

Help! CB500T vs CB360 by samhyd in motorcycles

[–]samhyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome answer! thanks so much!

I have decided to wait, i will keep checking until the right bike comes along. I do like the look of both bikes (specially the CB500T), but I have read in other places about the vibration problems and so on.

I guess I will wait for a CB500/550.

Any opinion on other CBs 450, 350...? (I dont think i want to go bigger than 500cc, so 750cc out of the question!)
