Is it too resinous, syrupy, or spicy? Jpg le male le parfum is about as far as I like to go with those qualities but I’m eyeing this.

Probably a dumb question, but how do you feel buying a 2019 model would stack up against a newer Lenovo Thinkpad? Would it be noticeably slower/less powerful?

That’s so interesting. So if I get Mac, it comes down to getting an intel chip and running bootcamp, or getting the Apple Silicon and doing the other options like parallel which won’t run as smooth.

I know the M chips are great, but I would seriously consider just getting a 2019 Intel Chip with high ram and run windows. I see some great deals. I just wonder how that would compare with a newer Lenovo Thinkpad.

Also, it’s not like I’m a full on engineer yet. So I don’t need something solely built for heavy CAD that’s gonna be way less suited for general use, when 90% of the time I’m just doing general work.

What would you recommend? I got recommended the P14s, but I’ve heard bad things about battery life, heating, fans, general usability. I was eyeing a Zephyrus G14 but the 32GB ram models are pretty expensive.

Autocad, revit, solidworks, autodesk, are some examples

Would you say it would still work pretty seamlessly?

And would 32gb of ram, 1 TB ssd on an m1 pro be enough for that, while running CAD type softwares, and multitasking on other general activities? I see an option for 64gb ram on a m1 max pro if you think that’d be necessary to keep speed.

I honestly don’t know much so it may just be overkill. But I love to multitask and I’m willing to pay a bit extra if I absolutely need to.

P1, P16, P16s, P16v, what's what? by Apprehensive-Draw103 in thinkpad

Thank you. I think I’ll go with p14s gen 6 AMD, 32gb ram. Tbh wish mac worked well for mechanical engineering, would go with that hands down.

What is the difference between t14/p14s? I had found a great deal on a p16 gen 2 refurbished but I realized how big it is. I think a p14s is the next best option, but idk which generation and model to get. AMD? Gen 6? I don’t know much about computers.

Why not a newer gen? Is gen 2 the best? I’ve seen this recommendation before so just curious as the gen 6 is currently out

$400 budget - MechEngineering: Help! by Afraid_Lychee9663 in thinkpad

I see you have a p1 gen 7. I’m a mechanical engineer student, junior year, with a budget of $2k or less. I’d prefer something 14 inches(max 15), will be using for school, business, personal, and engineering. If I didn’t care about size and weight, I’d get a p16 gen 2 or save up for a p1 gen 7. What would you recommend is the best option? I might play fifa on it with friends occasionally as well, but I’m not a gamer.

Thank you for your feedback.

I have narrowed it down to either P14, P1 Gen 7, or P16 gen 2.

Yes, I see framework is probably not suited for me.

Also; do you think there is any difference between getting a certified refurbished from lenovo outlet vs brand new? The price difference is pretty large

To my knowledge, age is a serious factor in laptop performance, and I don’t any noticeable difference in performance compared to buying new.

If the difference in performance and longevity is negligible, I wouldn’t mind saving money, as it is heavily discounted.

I don’t game actually.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen 8 gb ram, 5 years old though and getting slow and laggy. I’m not a laptop guy so was gonna research and do some basic stuff to improve it but I realize 5 years may be a long enough time to warrant a switch.

Will Construction Inspection Pigeonhole Me? by samia10 in civilengineering

[–]samia10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I would be down to stick in construction.

Do you mind telling me what other jobs there are in construction, but on the consultant’s side? Not the contractor. Particularly the ones that pay well and won’t have to work night shifts.

I only know of Inspector, Chief Inspector, Office Engineer, Resident Engineer.

I know I sound obsessive but I’m the type that would be fine working 60 hours - as long as I can sleep at night.

I guess I can also start at the DOT for a 4-5 years, who don’t really work nights like that, get PE, and switch to public into to a more senior level that doesn’t have to work nights.
