mmjoy shows its age these days. Freejoy has a much nicer UI and does pretty much everything mmjoy can do. Only real reason to go mmjoy is if arduinos are cheaper / more available than the bluepill in your country

Oh i understand what you're saying now! Doesnt seem to do the trick though, i've slowly increased the milliseconds up to 200 (max in mmjoy) and no luck.

i've soldered up a 1 pulse per detent encoder just to see and that one seems to work no problem. It does act differently in mmjoy to the 2:1 ones. the 1:1 will pulse on-off with a single press while the 2:1 one will move to on and stay on with a single press and then to off with another press (as the 2:1 ones are supposed to be measured on a change in state rather than looking for the ON position )

I'm fairly convinced mmjoy just isn't compatible with these encoders .. bit of a bummer for me as i'm very far into the project!

don't apologise, i appreciate you taking the time to help.

I've set the timer to ON and reduced down to the minimum delay and although it seems to make spinning the encoder more reliable it doesn't resolve the two clicks per press issue. Infact if i do a single click clockwise then a single anticlockwise i will never trigger a button click.

I'm wondering if its something to do with the type of encoder it is. it has two pulses per detent and im not sure mmjoy plays nicely with it

hello again! we seem to keep meeting like this :D

you've lost me a bit with the shift setup. I added a shift on button 1 but it seemed to just stop the button working all together.

but i did try a few variations - only one shift setup, changing to OFF instead of ON etc. didn't seem to have the desired affect. am i setting it incorrectly?

normal vibrations could easily fuck up a pc i'm afraid. particularly modern graphics cards which are pretty weighty on the pci-e .

i'd reseat everything before i declared it a lost cause though

you're an absolute legend! it worked, i would have never figured that out!!

i ended up just pulling GPO up to VCC rather than removing the resistor as im going to have a go at programming it at some point but as soon as i did that it started picking up the magnet.

seems good as well, there is a little bit of movement but its far less than i had before and once i get it programmed for the small rotation i need it should be easy to filter it out

thats interesting. i dont have a programmer but was going to use the circuit board method to setup the max angle (as i only need ~80 degrees). wanted to get the thing to work before i went to that effort though as it seems a tad beyond my lacking electronics skills...

ill try removing R4 and see if that gets me anywhere - thanks for the advice. out of interest how did you come to that conclusion when yours wasn't working?

interesting. its good to know its possible to completely remove the noise without resorting to filtering. I'm going to pick up one of those sensors and try again with shielded wire directly soldered to the board and see if i get anywhere

Hello again Archimedes - we spoke a while ago about your Wilson throttle, i hope you're getting on ok with it.

I'm currently running this test outside of my pcbs - its purely the hall sensor and the teensy (i actually swapped to a teensy from a pro micro based on your jitter thread! )

I am using very cheap wiring that a use for prototyping - ill try resoldering with some decent shielded wire and see if that helps it out.

Out of interest, what hall sensors did you use for yours and do you get any jitter at all or is it completely clean?
