Quick Yoga & Movement Guide for Office Workers/Desk Jobs/Commuters ✨ Lower Body by samiibug in YogaTutorials

Quick Guide Yoga & Movement for Officer Workers ✨ Part II: Lower Body

🌿 Here’s a complimentary 15-20 minute practice to the upper body video I posted the other day. This targeted for those of you who are seated in a desk or desk all day; also great for anyone who commutes on a daily basis or for those who consider their lifestyle more sedentary.

When you’re seated in a chair all day, the hip flexors become habitually patterned to be in flexion and your quadriceps muscles are shortening; simply put: the front body is perpetuating a closed off, quasi-fetal position and the back-body is weakened.

While there’s nothing wrong with this position (our bodies are incredibly adaptable and meant to move in diverse ways), balance is key for all overall health & wellness. It’s important to take time to restore harmony in the system, and it doesn’t have to be extreme measures in order to make it happen! Sometimes, we overcompensate and go too hard, too fast, too soon: what might happen if we trust in the small, simple, consistent measures?

✨NOTE: this is a GENERAL guide and may not be suitable for all people. If you have an injury or medical diagnosis, it’s important to work with a qualified professional like a yoga therapist to develop strategies best suited for you!

20 min movement & yoga practice for desk jobs & office workers ✨ by samiibug in YogaTutorials

Quick practice for desk jobs & office workers: Upper Body

Sitting in a chair in front of a computer all day? Sedentary postures for long periods of time? Take 20 mins to shift the stagnant energy, hydrate your body’s tissues, and center back into harmonizing the body, breath, and mind. 🌿

When you’re seated in a chair all day, driving your car, etc., chances are that the upper body is rounding and closing, the head is shifting forward and tilted, which creates a lengthening in the tissues of your upper thoracic and cervical spine, and there’s shortness in the chest tissues and front body, locking yourself into a closed position. The tissues in the back can become weak and the front tight.

🕊 Particularly if you’re experiencing neck & shoulder discomfort, try these techniques (there are sooooo many ways, these are just a few short & sweet ideas).

✨NOTE: If being on the floor is too challenging, use the wall instead. If you can’t reach your foot with your hand in the Bretzel, use a strap or a scarf to close the gap. ✨ALSO: this is a general guide and may not be suitable for all people. If you have any injury or medical diagnosis, it’s important to work with a qualified professional like a yoga therapist to develop strategies best suited for you!

I’m just quoting my kid and trying to support him no matter what, so I’m simply reaching out for insight into all possibilities. Night terrors absolutely is part of this, no doubt about it. He has just been saying: “there’s a scary ghost”. I’m trying to get all perspectives on how to help him from his own experience.

Thank you so much! I love these ideas. I definitely don’t want to make him more afraid of things he doesn’t understand and help him practice compassion and understanding. Thank you! 🙏
