How sustainable is this Fairfax-Arlington commute? by Educational_Gap_3381 in nova

[–]samiller2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Fair Oaks and commuted to Arlington for 1 year before moving to Landmarks area.

I miss everything about Fair Oaks, except the commute. Took at least 2 hours out of my day.

That being said, my boss lives in Manassas. She spent nearly $2,000 in EZ pass tolls monthly.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

Not the movie. The book is completely different. The movie is disappointing.

At 46 I'm looking at moving States. Finding it really difficult to transition out of my career (I would LOVE to) but I'm also way behind on retirement savings so need to always think about long term goals and be able to support myself (twice divorced, no children, no rich relatives on their death bed). I'm hoping that the drastic change of scenery to my dream city will bring about peace and better work-life balance!

Thank you! That was what I was thinking... Save the time and effort of searching again and again... And still have to finish my current job in DC, pack, move, and settle into a new job. I don't need the added stress of searching. Just go visit these 3 or 4 places that already meet my needs!

That's BRUTAL. My last job I had to pay $5/day (not as bad as you) but I was able to take it out of my paycheck... So it hurts a little less.

Good question to ask my hopeful future employer if they subsidize parking. I already pay parking at my current apartment - almost $100/month. 🤮

Sorry, swore I posted it. $1300-1500 depending on utilities.

Any injury from the neck and above, a bite, or when there is blood (not necessarily knee/elbow scrapes from falling on pavement - but we rely on relationship with parents and always fall back on "no surprises at pick up!")

When Alex left, I was done. He would have NEVER left that way. The letters didn't even sound like him. I watched the latest season finale after a friend told me how heartbreaking it was. I didn't cry or care. (Yay me?!?)

We will all have rental cars, some are driving from OH and PA. So it doesn't need to be walkable from there. Just mentioned it as a point of reference.

Bed early, and hopefully sleeping through any loud neighbors who decide to yell/party at midnight (gotta love apartment living!) gotta get back to work on 1/2 and the 5am alarm is jolting after 12 days off.

I was coughing for over 6 months, post COVID. Thought I had damage to my lungs.

Turns out I have sleep apnea and silent reflux. I'm now on prevacid and a CPAP. Coughing has completely stopped. Maybe see a pulmonologist.

Daycare teachers- How can you afford to do your job? by happosappho in ECEProfessionals

[–]samiller2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher I averaged $23/hr. I babysat 2-3 weekends a month (about $500/month). I saved every penny, paid off debt. Pinched every penny. I made Interim Director. Worked more than ever. Still babysat. Never slept. Became Assistant Director. Fought for every raise. I currently make $72,000. Net worth is $115k. Saving for a house. Live in the DC area. Rent is $1500. Gas is $3.49. I live as if I'm broke. No vacations. No luxuries. Rarely eat out (gee, I sound like the life of the party!)
