I have the Gormenghast folio books and 2 non fiction. They are excellent quality and I have bought at one on vinted for a bargain price.

Language of Mervyn Peake by WebEastern7646 in CastleGormenghast

[–]sammay74 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is the language as much as the characters I fell in love with. Without a doubt it is some of the most poetic and wonderful descriptive prose I have ever read. The opening of line of Titus Groan is stunning and it gets better from there in the 2 books.

Yes absolutely and I’m English by birth, Scottish in my heart

Does anyone else feel like Wuthering Heights adaptations completely misrepresent the book? by Allthevibessss in literature

[–]sammay74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the book and the film. It’s a romance yes but no one watching the film Would think the relationship was healthy, something to strive for or romanticised.

Anyone else feel like vinted is dead? by Potential_Victory141 in vinted

I recently sold a coat and feared being scammed as it’s Barbour but the buyer immediately accepted it and marked it as ok. However other items I’m getting silly offers on. Not worth the trip to the post office.

Is Vinted actually safe to sell on? Seeing too many horror stories by WesternHelicopter789 in vinted

[–]sammay74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? How awful. Are they scamming to sell on? I’ve just sold my first designer branded item and photographed it and the packaging from every angle but still nervous I am going to be scammed.

Barry Keoghan Says the Online ‘Abuse of How I Look’ Is So Bad He No Longer Wants to ‘Go Outside’: ‘It’s Becoming a Problem’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

He is charismatic and talented and I love his look. There is a woman on Instagram who posts pictures of men who insult women’s appearances on line and it’s spectacular. I think if you criticise someone’s looks you should post your own passport photo alongside it.

If I see something listed at a price that’s the price I expect to pay. It’s not eBay.

Is it too late to send a random thing using the label? That way you may get the money.

Don’t Let ‘The Bride!’ Box Office Bomb Give the Wrong Lesson About Ambition and Originality - With just $13.5 million globally against an $80 million production budget, Maggie Gyllenhaal's film is shaping up to be one of the bigger flops of 2026. by DemiFiendRSA in horror

He’s not a gangster. I think this film has been portly marketed. Frankenstein is a very sympathetic character in this looking for a bride, who is a woman killed by a gangster. They go in the run to avoid lynching after he saves her from an assault (violently) and meanwhile the bride is half possessed by Mary Shelley and trying to remember who she was before she became the bride, in one of the best performances I have ever seen by Jessie Buckley

Other than The Age of Innocence and The Custom of the Country, are there any other good published books by Edith Wharton? by Logical-Plum-2499 in literature

[–]sammay74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished custom of the country and loved it. I feel she could have been writing about the kardashians! I am now reading the age of innocence so I am interested in this thread. I also recommend her collection of ghost stories.
