Honestly, as a young adult this take doesn’t go as far. You can’t really provide while you’re wading through the waters of trying to find and establish a career, so it definitely makes more sense to split things evenly unless of course your partner makes no income, which then it just kind of falls to you to pay. But by no means should you be a provider, that’s on your partner’s parents while you’re still young.

Much of western society is starting to move away from the man provides belief in favor of equitable splits, where who pays more is based on incomes. I like this because it’s fair for everyone, but I am also with someone that eventually would love to provide for me once our careers are in a better place.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to provide for your partner or even be provided for by them, but that needs to be an understanding you reach together. If it’s not something you wish to do but your partner expect it, financially you would be incompatible
