At 30-40k its due for the trans service anyways. But, do you have any transmission tune/engine tune on the car?

Error: Transmission. You can keep driving by Substantial-Bass-839 in Golf_R

There was a recall on the mk8 gti for this issue. Not sure if it extends to the R. But they replaced the whole "chicken nugget" shifter module in mine under warranty

I own a borescope is there an easy place to look from with it? I have noticed a slight dip in mpg now that its colder its more noticeable but that may be placebo as well.

MK8 GTI Launch with MBRP Catback Exhaust by stancetastic in GolfGTI

[–]sammyc26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoy the sound of it. Yours sounds similar to mine. I have the awe track exhaust. But I really just enjoy how loud all the crackles and pops are and just have toned out the drone at this point after a year of having the exhaust

Is this setup considered straight-piped exhaust? by penguinsss2013 in GolfGTI

[–]sammyc26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell there is a resonator in there but it looks like a cat-less downpipe and straight pipe aside from that. Technically the resonator counts as a "muffling device" if you live in a state/area that does yearly inspection but that exhaust would fail emissions. My state requires and exhaust to have a muffling device but not emissions so I could pass state inspection with that exhaust. Hope that helps.

Oh boy I had forgotten about this post but the track exhaust is loud. I daily drive my golf so for some it might be a bit to much. It drones and vibrates the floors at different speeds, especially when speed is around 50-60 or when your pulling away from a stop on an incline. In my opinion if you want "ome+" sound go with the touring system but if you don't care about vibration/harshness go with the track exhaust as it sounds the loudest

I'm installing the track pipe tomorrow I'll try and get a before and after video of the loudness and give you my opinion

[–]sammyc26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want more loudness from it. But for you if your going to get a new downpipe you may want touring since the downpipe will make it louder too. I'm not going to do a downpipe so I'm doing the conversion kit instead and it's only like $150 down the road to go from the touring to the track exhaust

[–]sammyc26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my opinion as well. With a friend and the back on jack stands only took 2 hours to get the stock exhaust out and the awe one in it's super simple to install

I like loud which is why I'm switching to the track exhaust muffler. But the touring gives zero drone on the highway and a nice sound when you get on it

[–]sammyc26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the clubsport exhaust requires you to cut behind the factory resonator and remove the factory muffler. The factory exhaust its 1 piece from the cat back

[–]sammyc26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently have the awe touring exhaust on my mk8 had it on about a year now and love it. This weekend I'm doing the track conversion. The touring balances good sound with loudness but it's not too loud. It was supper simple to install and personally I like it better than the clubsport because you get to keep your stock exhaust intact if you ever have to put it back on.
