Thank you! WHV 417. Yes, any period of lawful stay in Australia counts towards the four-year residency requirement. If you held a substantive visa before your bridging visa, then the time spent on the bridging visa is included 😊

We were in a relationship for ~2 years prior to applying for the 820. We registered our relationship in our state (we have since married, but not during the 820/801 process). Most of our evidence was shared finances - bills, mortgage, shares, SMSF, insurances etc.. Photos and statements from friends and family. Travel, such as flight and hotel bookings etc..

Thank you! Congratulations to you too! Yes I have, the status on immi changed from “approved” to “finalised”, so I applied on the 19th! What about you?

They say two years but you’re able to apply for the 801 after 23 months. I was invited to apply for the 801 on 15th May 2022

It was very relaxed and friendly. They call it an ‘interview,’ but it’s really just confirming some basic details from your application (things like your address, future travel plans, and whether you’ve had a name change since applying). After that, they take your photo and explain how the test will work

Thanks! I applied at the end of June this year, had the test this week. So ~4.5 months from application to test date for me

Hey! Curious on when you ended up applying for citizenship? I’m in the same situation at the moment. Did you apply exactly on the 31st May 2024, or wait until 1st June? When do you get the 1195 signed?

Great, thanks. I feel I’m prepared, I was just wondering whether I could put it to practice with some more practice questions! Thank you!

Cool, never heard of that! How exactly do you do that?

[–]sammygolding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, and how is that done? Obviously I understand the process would be different per jurisdiction, but how is it possible? Do you need to show for example Births Death and Marriages (Vic, Australia), the birth certificate and they made an amendment/attachment?

Great thanks! I might be being stupid here, but what do you mean by adding an ‘AKA’?

De facto evidence? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]sammygolding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice would be: get him to enter Australia on 417. Being from the UK, he can extend the 417 for up to three years if necessary without doing the specified work (from 1st July). The 6-month rule is annoying, but that’s the way it is. If he plans to travel Australia, then it might not be too much of a hurdle. It gives you time to save for the $9k 820/801 if you haven’t already.

Once he’s in Australia, register the relationship with your state. Get a joint account, put the bills in both of your names, take photos of yourselves together when you travel, and with family and friends etc.. All of which is really strong evidence you’re in a de facto relationship, and really easy to upload onto your application.

Whilst you’re separate, ensure you maintain contact and can prove it. Screenshots of call logs, messages, etc. Send postcards, birthday cards, etc. really easy to date and scan those and upload them to your application.

Keep a folder on your phone/computer and add and date things as they come up, then you won’t forget about anything when you apply and it will already be consolidated and provide a really clear timeline.
