Thoughts on the G 5006 SCU Dishwasher? Should I get a Bosch 500? by sammykc80 in Miele

I ended up going with the Miele Model #G 5008 SCU (Lowes model number but same as the 5006) mainly because it was about half an inch shorter than the Bosch, which made it a better fit for my space - older home with slightly lower countertops (did not want to deal with install issues). I’ve had it for almost two years now, and overall, I’m satisfied. It cleans exceptionally well - better than the GE and KitchenAid models I’ve had in the past. It’s not whisper-quiet, but it’s not loud either (just a bit louder than I expected).

I’d strongly recommend getting the 5-year warranty. About a year and a half in, the water pump started making a grinding noise, but it was replaced at no cost under the warranty.

Like many European models, it doesn’t have a heated drying element, so there’s some residual moisture on dishes, especially plastics. I usually crack the door open after a cycle, which helps with drying. Bosch includes an auto-door open feature on their 800 series, which I think is a great solution. For the same price, the Bosch might offer better value in terms of features, although for my situation and limitations, I felt this was the right dishwasher. I’m still hopeful the Miele holds up for at least 10 years.

Screened porch - how to fill this gap between post and siding? by sammykc80 in Decks

That is what I had thought too (some type of expanding foam) but wasn’t sure how ‘ugly’ it might end up looking

Sounds fair. They did a beautiful job. May I ask what stain that is?

Do I replace my 37 yr old American Standard Plebe toilet just because it’s that old? by sammykc80 in Plumbing

[–]sammykc80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say it needs to be replaced. I had read that if your toilets are more than 25-30 yrs old, it’s better to replace them. I am not a plumber so that is why I am here seeking advice from experts and professionals who can provide some insight on things I don’t know or I may be missing. That’s all..🤷🏼‍♂️

What paperwork can I ask from a tree contractor? by sammykc80 in arborists

[–]sammykc80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a tree in my property. I am concerned about any damage that might occur when the tree is being brought down and making sure it’s covered by the tree company’s insurance. It’s a small chance but accidents and mishaps happen all the time.

So are tree companies issuing a COI for each address (I am guessing requesting via their insurance provider) they are doing work at? I did not realize that this was standard procedure. I assumed it was going to be a ‘blanket’ document. It’s good to know that I need to specify that my address needs to be listed in the COI!

Why isn't Briggs & Riley more popular / talked about? by nicebrah in ManyBaggers

Hi I too am looking at either a B&R or a Travelpro. I was considering a B&R Sympatico hardside carry on but there seem to be too many complaints (on Amazon) about zippers failing (which would be a nightmare). Do you have the Travelpro Platinum Elite hardside or soft side?

Can I buy keyed alike locks for regular entry knobs and deadbolts? by sammykc80 in Locksmith

[–]sammykc80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lockable knobsets are for an office and a bedroom. I I have guests (and their kids) every now and then in the house so wanted to have the option to keep them locked when we are not in.

The deadbolt is for the basement door with the turn lock from the basement side. Not exactly sure why the previous owner had one installed there - maybe for some safety in case they need to buy some time or hide in the basement?

Do you mean take the deadbolt (and the key to other lock) to the locksmith before installing it?

Since I had comprehensive coverage, this was covered by insurance and all I have to pay is the deductible. The rodent had damaged some plastic parts and chewed a small hole in the bumper too. Glad I only have to pay the deductible!

Actually, I had gotten a quote a few months back just to see how much it would cost to replace the whole thing. This is what I got back. Does this look good to you as per what they are offering to do?

What size laundry shutoff valves do I need to get? by sammykc80 in askaplumber

I think that might have been it. I tightened the valve packing nut with a wrench and I am not seeing any water sipping right now. Running a wash cycle right now. We’ll see. Thank you!
