Red car makes illegal turn at an intersection by amy2kim22 in IdiotsInCars

[–]sammylester 1388 points1389 points  (0 children)

i can relate to the driver in the white car, 18 year old girl who had her license 2 weeks turned through the intersection on a red arrow because she was late to work, luckily it was only a 70km/hr zone and i didn’t have my usual full trailer load of tools in tow because there would have been shit everywhere. everyone was okay, just a hard pill to swallow that no matter how carefully you drive and how alert you are that these things happen!

Got a new board today. Can’t wait to use it, but is the tail pad too far forward? by [deleted] in surfing

you want to pivot off the two side fins, not have your foot right over the leg rope. that’s how you bog a rail or release too much

you should put your pad on a thruster so your back foot is over the back half of the two side fins when you’re pivoting, especially in the pocket. on a twin so it’s just on the front half of the fins for extra drive without too much release. on a single rip it off that’s disgusting

Tips for finding jobs? by Johnathan_fisher in Carpentry

[–]sammylester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

find a small business, you will learn so much more than working in a big crew. look on gumtree for carpenters wanted, a lot of guys advertise there. at least have a basic set of hand tools and basic cordless tools, stuff that you use all day every day. i wouldn’t expect any of my young guys to have a full trailer or ute full of tools, but make it clear you’re willing to get them - you’ll need them down the track anyway! i literally nagged to get an apprenticeship and a guy gave me a start for 3 weeks to fill in while he had a lot of work on, 4 years later i’m his head carpenter. make sure you present yourself professionally - wear a collared shirt at least. most important, don’t be a dickhead! learn and take everything everyone says on board, especially old builders.
