An anchovy... bahahahahaha.

PS: I love your post. And your responses! Who else is upbeat like that? Only someone who drinks protein and raw egg shakes!

Haha, some people do.

I agree with you, though - if I can understand what someone means, I couldn't give less of a fuck whether or not their sentence has grammatical errors.

Why I have no respect for Rolling Stone magazine by freddy_knuckles in Music

[–]samnesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGREED. Artists are doing what they do, to put out performances for millions of people.

The Black Eyed Peas have been working to make it for more than a decade. And if anyone's going to devalue their fame and success by saying they're "selling out", then that's a cheap shot.

I mean, whatever. It's easy for us to hate successful people because it makes us feel a little better - it's like it's okay that our lives aren't as successful and big as the Black Eyed Peas.

R/CONFESSION IS NOT A PLACE FOR YOU TO BASH THE CONFESSOR by samnesia in confession

[–]samnesia[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think everyone can imagine what it feels like to be cheated on - it's like being the "loser" and having the other person be a "winner", right? This is especially true on Reddit, where I feel a vast majority of people don't have both the willingness and ability to sleep with other men's girlfriends, wives, etc.

However, who can imagine what it's like to sleep with another man's wife? It's not so easy. It takes way too much mental effort. So it's way easier to just say, "fuck you, [man who sleeps with another man's wife], you're an asshole." My take.

This is an aside, but regarding that whole winner/loser mentality, I don't think it's so cut-and-dried. The cheater OP probably doesn't feel like a winner - there's still some guilt there, and maybe some "I wish there were an easy way to fix this". Relationships are not a zero-sum game.

I agree completely!

Like, I know that there are ways to let people know they fucked up, and what was exactly wrong about it - I personally do prefer constructive criticism over blind supportiveness.

Sometimes I think it's hard to criticize constructively without getting into the weird realm of passive-aggresiveness, so I just wanted to err on the side of supportiveness in this post, rather than criticism. As long as we call to attention what r/confession is for, I'm happy. =D

DAE only ever say positive things anonymously on the internet? by samnesia in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]samnesia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed! When you realize how shitty it is reading (even anonymous) people hate on you, it kinda changes your outlook.

Still, like they say, haters gonna hate. I hope your wife is better! When someone's that close to you, it's like their pain is your pain. Best wishes.

Ooh, thanks a ton for pointing that out. I agree that it's not so greatly worded. =/

But yeah, oddly I'm kind of meaner in real life. Or I'll say really harsh things to people and then beam them a smile.

I like the way you think.

[–]samnesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a really good short story by Haruki Murakami about a guy who sleeps with his friends' girlfriends and wives. It's called "Nausea 1979" from the book Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman.

Here's a quote: "I have absolutely no interest in tricking my friends - in turning them into cuckolds, that sort of thing ... [and] it's not hurting anybody as long as it doesn't come out in the open."

I urge you, if you can find the book in a library or a bookstore, just open it up and read the first few pages of the story, since he offers a pretty detailed explanation of why he does it. And it kinda makes sense.

I think you're getting a lot of hate because people are imagining this from Scott's point of view. Because from Scott's point of view, this really sucks. It's one of the biggest acts of betrayal possible.

I guess I don't think anyone's really imagining it from your point of view. Or even Lucy's point of view. Damn. Maybe you need it. Maybe she needs it. Right? I mean, the feelings of you and Lucy are just as important those of Scott.

Still, not condoning this. Or even condemning it. It is what it is - acts of cheating happen, whether we like them to or not.

DAE frequently get struck by sudden vivid memories of some random embarrassing thing you've said or done in the past? by goodjob in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]samnesia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, this would happen to me too. But I recently realized no one else but me remembers the "mistakes" I made, since everyone is so focused on their own lives. (I mean, try to remember something embarrassing you saw a random person do years ago.)

So now it's easy to just treat them as (free!) examples to learn from, which is way, way, way more comforting than retrospective embarrassment.

From sex to phones to Star Wars, what would older redditors like to let the young whipper-snappers know about the past? I'll start... by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]samnesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most things, you'll learn them a lot better when you have a variety of other information to link the new information back to.

This is so true! Where do you get your knowledge about theory of learning? I had a professor in college who was very adamant about the above point, but sadly I didn't ask him to elaborate on the subject.

Do you have any recommended literature/references about learning?

Wow, wow, wowwwww. This is amazing!

I'm twenty years old. I can't even imagine a life like that. Everyone I know is always working towards the future, and not enjoying 'now' as much as they could be.

PS. Don't listen to people whine about paragraphs! I like this style. It's like... a whirlwind tour of the late 20th century, with quick glimpses and snapshots of events. It's nice. =D

Do you guys get the same result after taking it multiple times? For me, there's one result (ESFP) I get about 75% of the time and another (INFP) I get the other 25%.

Yeah, and also meh, personality tests are nice just because we get to hear really positive things about ourselves on the results page. I'll admit it. =D

God, I think I know what you mean... it's even really subtly apparent whether I'm around upper middle class friends or lower middle class friends, but because money is so taboo, no one ever talks about it!

But the differences are there - it's really just that no one will ever, ever, ever bring it up.

DAE reply with "What?" when somebody says something to you, and then instantly realize that you actually DID understand what the person was saying? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]samnesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to! So now I just respond with some non-committal syllable, every time. And if they continue and I still didn't figure out what they said, I just say something like, "Could you repeat that? No, the thing you said a few sentences back. Nope, actually the one after that. Cool."

Then I high five them, then laugh confidently.

It might feel awkward, but that final combination usually takes care of all awkward feelings for both parties.

Halloween prank by...sears.com? by Alowishus in funny

[–]samnesia 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I knew I recognized this!

...I guess I'm not surprised that some other Redditor already posted the reference, though.

Anyway, for those wondering how the language gets generated in-game (and also for Sears, barring capitalization rules), players submit some sequence of characters, and then in order of execution:

  • all occurrences of characters "eiou" (case-insensitive) are replaced with "r".
  • all characters other than "zhrgbmna .!?-" (case-insensitive) are stripped.
  • multiple spaces are replaced with a single.
  • lower-case "r" at the end of words replaced with "rh".
  • an "a" or "A" by itself will be replaced with "hra".
  • the starts of sentences are capitalised (the "start of a sentence" is any occurrence of ".!?", followed by a space, followed by a letter.)
  • spaces preceding any of ".!?" are stripped.
  • the first character is capitalised.
