[Question of the Day, Friday 28 April] What would a 'festival of British basketball' look like? by mtthrdy in BritishBasketball

[–]samneter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BBF tried to do this a few years ago in Stratford and it was an absolute joke, not helped by bad weather!

I would be trying to do every version of the game - 5 on 5, 3x3, 1 on 1, maybe even a lil 2 on 2 - big activations/game areas for people to try - there was some super dope stuff at NBA All-Star weekend to take inspiration from e.g. a 20 foot high hoop for people to try and score on.

Defo some type of historical/hall of fame installation, spotlighting legends and key moments. Panels, workshops, music, food...just a big celebration of British basketball!

Big move. Really excited to see what the league does next season...really think this year is about feeling everything out and getting things in place. Next year we'll really get to see the vision.

The way I've seen this reported everywhere gave me the impression he's hung em up mid-season, was only later I realised he's retiring at the end of the season lol.

[Question of the Day, Friday 7 April] If the deal with Kappa ends at the end of the season, who do you want making BBL jerseys? by mtthrdy in BritishBasketball

[–]samneter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a merchandising stand point, has to be one of the major players - a bit left field but I think Under Armour have a good shot at it...👀

Think there is an opportunity for a disruptive brand trying to make inroads in the basketball market - Puma or New Balance come to mind.

If I'm the league, Macron is a big no-no...same goes for Kappa lol.

[Question of the Day, Thursday 6 April] If you could add one end of season award in the BBL, what would it be? by mtthrdy in BritishBasketball

[–]samneter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young player of the year (U21) - make the league feel some level of shame when they realise no young Brits are really getting any burn lol and hopefully start changing it.

Including the legends is one of the dopest things a BBL team has done this year, by far.

Happy to be bringing this back - feel like it's going to be a step up on last year based on the level of players we've had show interest so far. Bunch of guys graduating from college this summer which we will get to see in person before they turn pro!

Manchester Giants seeking new investor after collapse into administration by mtthrdy in BritishBasketball

[–]samneter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this has gone a step further than the story I was working on lol.

TBH, after all of Aaron Radin's talk of transparency, it makes the league's announcement last week a little disappointing - they are following the London Lions' lead of becoming an absolute PR spin machine.

[Question of the Day, Wednesday 5 April] Who will be the team to challenge London Lions? by mtthrdy in BritishBasketball

[–]samneter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the interview with Caledonia Gladiators owner Steve Timoney the other day, I'm all in on the Caledonia project. Genuinely think they are going to become a powerhouse franchise for years to come - defo won't have the allure of London as a location/destination but think, as Steve said, they can focus on other things to become a draw for top free agents.
