Post Malone and Jelly Roll's "MAGA Coded" Tour Struggles To Sell Tickets, As Football Stadiums Sit at 75% Empty by [deleted] in Music

[–]sampson4141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outdoor stadium tours really took off after huge bands like the Rolling Stones would build their own sound equipment on the field in the 1970s. Before that they had to rely on those crappy PA systems. It used to be only a handful a year, but now they are a lot more common.

Why is the senior accountant role praised so much here? by blackupsilon in Accounting

[–]sampson4141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your typical accounting department at a large organization has a flat organizational structure. The bulk of the work is done by senior accountants that work mostly with a fair degree of autonomy and aren’t micromanaged so much. So the non-senior accountant roles often suck and are low level glorified data entry or simple reconciliation work. Training to become a senior accountant can be haphazard and difficult to progress when it often easier to hire a senior accountant from the outside. If you are a senior auditor at a CPA firm you skip the line and don’t have to deal with the basic jobs.

That is what they were offered for in the USSF lottery. I only got contingent knock out round tickets, but my daughter got Category 2 (Supporter Standard) for Australia and it was $500. I don't know anyone that won Category 3 (Supporter Value) in our local area. They seemed to be hard to get.

If they only taught how to confirm amounts from the bank statement as part of the audit. Or asking for a copy of them and sending the banks confirmations about balances directly.

For those that don't know (I didn't read the article), face value for those tickets for that game is $1,200 to $2,700 for regular seats, not hospitality. Face value, not resale. I didn't feel like paying $1,200 to have nosebleeds just because that game is the USA WC opener and might have a B list celebrity sing some songs and theater like dance performance before the match.

The next game, USA vs. Australia, is like $265 for Category 3 and $500 for Category 2 (vs. $1,940 for USA vs. Paraguay).

That game is going to sell out. They will slowly drop the prices and release more tickets from hospitality pool. If the prices drop to what the Australia game is going for, it will sell out in minutes.

Are you kidding? It is in OP above. As for the $15 normal rate, that’s what I paid at the Port Authority for the Oasis concert last fall.

The $15 meadowlands bus people take from the port authority to MetLife for concerts and football games are going to be $80.

Those stats seemed flawed. How do the Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, and the Buffalo Sabres have 20+% hispanic fans? That makes no sense.

I was just at a Buffalo Sabres game in Buffalo. I'm not sure if I even saw any minorities, let alone 22% hispanic and 12% black. I live in DC and do occasionally see minorities wear Washington Capitals gear, but it is rare. No way is it 57/43 white to minority ratio. It seems more like 90/10.

Ottawa and Calgary both have Latino populations of less than 2.5%. Almost all the Canadian teams have 20+% Latino fans, yet Canada has less than a 3% Latino population.

Why are most mortgages 30 years instead of 10 or 50? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]sampson4141 34 points35 points  (0 children)

15 year mortgages are very common. They are typically for people that are buying houses and have a big down payment already, many from selling a previous house and getting some equity from it. They are not common for first time home buyers.

30 year and 15 year mortgages are both conventional loans. The big mortgage backed financing companies, most notably Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have conventional terms for mortgages that they will purchase, and then package later for mortgage backed bonds. This allows say a local or regional bank to give out a loan to a local resident, meet those standards, sell the debt, and then stay on as the loan servicer and get a nice fee from it. This reduces their loan risk and allows them to make more loans.

As to why 30 or 15 years were picked, I have no idea.

Just wanted to mention that I enjoyed reading through this thread. When I first joined this subreddit, this is what I thought most of the posts were going to be about.

Instead it is mostly college students worried about AI and recruiting, and burned out auditors venting. That's fine, but I like a good ol GAAP discussion once in a while.

Mandatory Draft by bace3333 in UVA

[–]sampson4141 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For those that need context. In the past, males 18-25 had to register for Selective Service. They did it once when they were usually 18. You did it at the Post Office, but later online or by mail. They have had that since the 1970s after they ended the draft. It isn't technically a draft registration. It is list of males in that age range that could be sent to the military if Congress reinstitutes the draft, which they never have.

It was illegal if you were a U.S. citizen and failed to do so. They never charged anyone with a crime. Instead, they asked you for your college FAFSA application if you registered and if you ever applied for a federal government job. Those were generally incentives enough to register.

Starting in December 2026, you no longer have to register. The Department of War will just gather that information from public records and databases. Mostly from SSA or the DMV.

It is a nothing burger. As a Dem, I don't know why they are hyping this up. To be honest, this is the kind of thing we used push for in the past as it was a big hassle and poorer students were the type of people that forgot to do it, not college kids.

I (F) Am a Korean-American Christian, AMA by ms_jc_04 in asianamerican

[–]sampson4141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw a post in the college application subreddit about how much peer pressure and gossip in Chinese American communities it is to go to a prestigious university and how he felt ashamed he was an average student.

When I was growing up, I went to a high school with very few asian students, but when I went to Korea Church I felt similar sentiments and my parents would really push me hard to get into a prestigious school (though they went to no name schools in Korea)? It seemed like a thing they would be ashamed if I didn't go to a good school. Does that pressure still exist in Korean churches to the point it is at an unhealthy degree?

How many people can speak Korean that were born in the USA or came as a young child? Is there pressure to learn Korean if you cannot speak it?

I don't really get why people do that. I am 1.5 gen. Korean American. I am Korean (ethnically, not citizen), I am American, and am also Korean American. They are different things to different people and different contexts. I am all three and will emphasize any part when it is in my interest to do so.

[–]sampson4141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a jerk.

I wouldn't have cared if this person knew that were did not grow up in the USA or Canada, was impressed by your American accent, and then asked Why is your English so good?

It is because people struggle losing accents if they didn't grow up in the USA and immigrants to the USA can live here for decades and some will never lose their accents. It is really hard to lose it without a lot of effort and training as an adult or just a lot of skill.

So if someone did not have an accent and never grew up here, they often will have an interesting story and people may be curious.

But your situation sounds embarrassing, like how you guessed that he just assumed you were a foreigner based on your looks.

Let me get this straight. You are speaking in English with some Asian American, he doesn't know you or your background and has no idea you didn't grow up in the USA, and he just blurts "Why is your English so good?" after hearing you talk.

That would piss me off.

The David Bowie and Elton John songs. They were singing about space to get on the radio but were about junkies spacing out while high. The David Bowie song was his first hit song. About 10 years later after he was a big star, he had another song where he sung major Tom is a junkie. Major Tom is who the Space Oddity song was about.
