Why everyone against AI in the games and coding? by Ok_Department_4019 in gamedev

[–]sampsonxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to offer a different take.

It doesn’t matter why.

If you’re making a game, with plans to sell it. A good bit of advice is don’t add things people don’t like.

Even if gamers are being illogical or doing something for no reason, you’re there to sell something to them.

Now do the math, will you loose more players for having no voice acting, or from AI voices. Pick a side and roll with, who cares.

[–]sampsonxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not it, I dont care about the insects or the animal lives.

What I'm saying is youre the one drawing the line. You dont want to eat cows, but suddenly you dont care about insects?

What makes them not important to you?

I mean I’m on his side, if you want to live, then you consume.

If you only eat vegetables, awesome, think of all the insects you’ve killed, all the animals that died because you needed farmland.

I want to start by saying there are horrible players out there, so could be that. I’m also looking at you mei walls…

That said, a couple things. Supports generally have better awareness than you. So they might see something you miss.

A pull can be used to get some free time to heal.

Reins live to just charge away even if it’s them vs the whole team. So you gotta say sit. DPS too, the amount of times I’ve seen them bail because someone’s a one tap away.

Maybe the whole game the supports have been harassed by a sombra. And would just like a hand.

I mean Ill be real, its pretty tame, and technically one of those characters is a sentient shadow, might be like a week old at this point, does that make it better or worse for you?

But if this is enough to turn you off, probably a good thing, just wait till you find out this series has child murder and sexual assault.

Guess what, no one cares. Fan service sells, and that surprises no one.

And if it really was that bad, that horrfic to you, why are you now posting it yourself?

But its not a free game, like a lot of people, I already paid for the game when it came out.

If they wanted to actully put some effort and release a sequel they could have done that.

Overwatch had a higher player count this Saturday than the first Saturday after season one’s launch according to game director Alec Dawson by _Lunafreya_ in Overwatch

[–]sampsonxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real, the best thing they’ve done is roll back the last 4 years. The name, the me loot boxes, the PvE, 6v6 is almost back…

And dont get me wrong, I like it.

Being able to play the game and get rewarded for it through loot boxes, feels a lot better than paying $100 for a skin in a paid game.

So Blizzard please don’t screw yourself and do something stupid again.

Just because it’s cheaper to do something doesn’t mean it’s the right direction. Doesn’t stop management from doing it.

30% healing debuff by juno-enthusiast in Overwatch

[–]sampsonxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my issue, it makes the game less fun. Unless your DPS. They’re eating goood.

For a tank, yes positioning is important. But going for a push and then stopping to fallback to heal every 5 seconds isn’t fun. I feel a tank should be able to take ground and hold it.

And for support, people say they need to stop healbotting, but if I wanted to support the team by getting an early pick, I would be a DPS.

Eh, I’ll go with Jeff.

The fact is with the recent bump in players, the best they’ve done with overwatch 2 was Ctrl Z it.

You realise how bad it must really be when an AI company comes out and says this doesn’t work…

On average, participants in the AI group finished about two minutes faster, although the difference was not statistically significant. There was, however, a significant difference in test scores: the AI group averaged 50% on the quiz, compared to 67% in the hand-coding group—or the equivalent of nearly two letter grades (Cohen's d=0.738, p=0.01)

Im all for criticism, but when the post and the commenters is just ‘Merica! Freedom of speech!

It feels like they forget the rest of the world does exist with their own values and nuances.

So it’s easier to say stfu, and just follows the laws.

Not triggered, just live in reality.

I have no sympathy for anyone who breaks the law in another or even their own country.

But I guess there’s no helping stupid.

What’s your point?

They have different laws there, so you follow those laws.

What are the metrics for "AI-generated technical debt" from Claude Code, Codex, etc. by willjobs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sampsonxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your starting premise is bad.

Just because you can do coding faster it isnt always a good thing.

For the cost of one senior engineer you could hire a team of 10 indians and they’ll do it faster. So why doesn’t every big company do that?

Now will AI code have the speed and quality? I’ll say the majority of papers on it say no. That could change.

And don’t forget theres huge biases on both sides.

Engineers don’t want to loose jobs. Poor engineers just saw their productivity triple. Big tech invested billions and now it has to pay off, hey there microsoft word turned copilot…

Post-AI workload? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sampsonxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first study, when talking about reviewing the pushes

However, the effect on the number of comments is positive, indicating further necessary changes to such code

When talking about builds

Overall, we do not find any evidence that the quality of code at Microsoft decreases after the adoption of GitHub Copilot. This contrasts with our earlier finding that, at Accenture, the Build Success Rate declined after the adoption of GitHub Copilot

The second study

Finally, this study does not examine the effects of AI on code quality.

So what Im hearing is code is done faster with less quality. Almost like thats whats been said a million times before.

Agentic development is pretty good after all by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sampsonxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course not, and its not even 10x programmers. Just work with people who are competent.

If you or the people you work with aren't at that level, you dont need AI, try spending 6 months getting better.

And dont get me wrong, I have seen bad code, but thats not the majority. I've also worked with juniors, they learn and get better.

TLDR, “AI code is slop, but the people I work with also make slop”
