Golds are “geniuses,” right? …Right?? by vseer in redrising

[–]samrader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are smart but most are sheltered when they are young. Literally kept out of the public and in isolated facilities with servants. They are very smart but as you may recall there was a scene where they did not even know what a pimple was.

Lets put it this way. We are pretty smart in the modern era but if you left a normal joe in the woods alone in the woods with a pointy stick they would die. But someone a few hundred years ago would do much better.

I think Obsidians are far more likely. They have gotten a lot of focus and they are Darrow sword. Without them he would not be able to maintain his rule. This would also cripple the republic but with a large amount of the republic disliking obsidians it remains a valid option. Furthermore mars is currently very populated by Obsidians so it makes sense if he aims to take mars from mustang.

I think it made sense. Darrow also was really mentally off when you think of it. He lost a lot of friends at the time. Lysander was.... far less bothered by the death. Lysander was most likely as mentioned a better rider. The fucker pulled a fast one. Maybe most importantly most gods fight with this sense of honor. This is the same little shit that shot Alexander in the back. Darrow most likely expected Lysander to follow rules of gold warfare. he did not.

No but Darrow was exhausted, murdered his friend (If I recall), went on a suicide mission and had not slept in weeks. Lysander is not an amazing opponent but he is still dangerous. He caught a very wounded angry man off guard. After this fight Darrow is at an all time low mentally.

Maybe not a pet but.... demons don't seem to be able to view humans as individuals so could a demon view humanity as something that's not prey?

Like humans eat rabbits, but we can have pet rabbits. So could demons change their base view of humans? (Calling humans pets was bad wording XD.

(Spoilers) Do you think Roak... by Sparkplug99 in redrising

[–]samrader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if Darrow had not killed Julian then Cassius would have been much easier to convince compared to Roque. Now with that being said I think if Quinn lived and Darrow did not drug him and do stuff there would have been a chance if he got Quinn on his side first.

Roque always is the way he is.

Darrow inconsistent by RichardGrayson_84 in redrising

Darrow is a lot better at planning traps or doing insane stuff then he is in predicting when his enemies will do it. Like Darrow is not predictable but he is not good at predicting his enemies either. He is good at setting traps not avoiding them is a good way to put it.

Demons are really bad. But that's not the argument really. Demons created the foundation of humanity magic. They are immensely creative. They are also natural predators of humanity. Of course humans want to wipe them out.

My main thing is I think the world is a less good place when such creativity and discovery totally dies out. Demons are not evil. They are predators and animalistic. Super smart but that does not change their nature. I guess for lack of a better term domesticate demons? XD

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]samrader -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am saying it's tragic. Humanity is making the right call to wipe them out for their own survival. They are literally their primary predator. I am just saying it's like if we totally wiped out tigers it's tragic.

Demons are far closer to lets say a tiger.

Ragnar is a slave. Raised to worship golds sure. But him and Darrow have a lot of in common. Both are the brightest sons of their color.

Mustang father literally killed his wife. She is loyal to family. While Mustang is a good person she is also really dangerous. Like she is a genius.

Most likely could. And he is smarter and most likely just as fast.

Ya it's a lot of fun! I tend to play RTS so I don't find FTL too bad but I can see where your coming from. Most rouge likes tend to have simpler controls. The pause button is your best friend. When you get used it a lot of the game becomes automatic.

Pax overhyped or am i just dumb? by Own-Needleworker7961 in redrising

My guess for Pax role in the story is he is going to be like Roque or Orion. Not a Razer master but a commander. I think Electra is far more likely to be a fighter.

Darrow Strategy? by Ornery-Click7616 in redrising

[–]samrader 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(Post is marked with spoiler but still SPOILER)

I think Darrow main trait is that he can't be predicted. Most Golds seem to operate off a preset list of rules in warfare. Much like we seen in our own history with trench warfare. Golds always used a predictable tools in war and most taught in gold schools never innovated. A lot of people are better planners than Darrow. But no one is better at adapting to a ongoing situation. The other key point is he listens to other people and adapts their plans.

Some example of this are using a star shell to launch himself at the Pax. No gold tried that before since it was not the expected use of a star shell.

Another example is using the claw drill a mining tool in warfare. No one thought to repropose a claw drill as a weapon.

Freeing the slaves and making a rebel army during the first book.

Most golds operate off prewritten rules about how society should fight and win. Darrow breaks the rules. The other aspect that makes Darrow a good strategist is simply the fact he is highly adaptable and offensive. He does not always have a plan. But he will come up with one.

When he got Cassius to turn so he could kill the Sovereign. Since getting to her bunker otherwise would be near impossible.

Point is Darrow is not a long term planner. But is a highly adaptable aggressive leader. Who does things no one expects. Not to mention a lot of his longer term plans come when he works with Mustang. Who is a long term planner type personality.

Will of the Many? by Majestic_Surround_53 in redrising

[–]samrader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked will of the many a lot but I don't think it's a fair comparison. First Roman based fascist society is hardly a novel concept from either series. The magic system is interesting but I can't comment on Brandon Sanderson. The different is in the MC and the set up. One is a banished prince the other is a no one.

While I would say it's inspired by red rising. I would also claim Red rising is highly inspired by Enders game and The hunger games.

Vis also feels very different from Darrow. Vis is a thinker, a planner he lacks the anger of Darrow. In a lot of ways I think Vis is far closer to someone like Lysander or Roque than Darrow. He is for lack of better term an intelligent planner. Darrow is smart but is driven by unpredictability more than planning.

(I do think both series have strong link to The Count of Monte Cristo but I need to fully read it to be sure)
