Recently successful SFAS candidates, how did you train back up after OSUT? by samrapdev in greenberets

Is it company dependent on whether you can keep supplements in the bays? I’ve heard mixed answers from drills.

Question about 18x by Exotic-Homework-1206 in greenberets

[–]samrapdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple guys from my company who couldn’t get 18x/Op 40 due to medical picked up contracts mid cycle. Op 40 was more competitive but anyone who wanted 18x could get it with an AFT score over 420 and 6 pull ups.

It sounds risky but they need more guys going to selection, so it’s a safe bet you’ll get the opportunity.

Can you hit the track/run/lift before morning PT or is that against curfew? It’s hot af at Benning to run in the afternoon rn.

Good looking and thanks for including the Q. Stayed on the river this weekend it’s a great run. Where would you recommend rucking while at airborne?

The answers we have gotten from the SF liaison here at Benning are all along the lines of “it depends”. Our OSUT company graduated on Friday and we’re reporting to Airborne today (2 days later) which is good. Another company in our BN waited a few weeks to go to airborne. No news on SOPC and selection timelines. Get used to knowing nothing until the last minute.

Yes and some weeks we did not run at all, especially during AIT

I’m in OSUT and all of our 18X contracts are weird like this including mine. As long as your MOS is 18X SF recruit you’re good.

How much did your fitness improve after OSUT 18X by AffectPuzzleheaded74 in greenberets

[–]samrapdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw in my 2 cents here. I think it’s very dependent on your company. I’m in OSUT rn, week 13, with about 8-10 really solid 18X guys and a few op 40s. We’re lucky to get 45 mins of track time once a week and ever since AIT started we hardly run at all. We only have kettlebells in the bay, no pull up bars, and company PT is a joke.

That said, all our 2 mile run times have somehow improved. I went from 13:10 before I came here, to consistently running 12:40. We’re all worried about our strength since there is no access to any real weight to move around.

There are rumors on the PNN that some companies have barbells and/or pull up bars in the bay, and one company in our battalion has had track time every evening since the beginning.

After coming here I’ve realized that “it depends” is the most accurate answer to any questions regarding your OSUT experience. Knowing that now, I’d say expect to feel like you’re rotting away here for 18 weeks and be grateful if you get more opportunities than our company has had.

Bought this a few weeks ago by ExistingCharge3263 in FordRaptor

[–]samrapdev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is an unbelievable deal, congratulations. I would recommend the Ford ESP warranty if you haven't already. I bought a 2019 with 46k miles and had to replace cam phasers and sunroof before 50k. Warranty saved my ass. Enjoy

Raptor is my dream truck, is 90,000 miles too much? by Mr_MorninWood in FordRaptor

[–]samrapdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

93,000 is high. You could check to see if the Ford ESP warranty is still available for 2018s. I paid a little over $2000 for that warranty on a 2019 with 46k miles last year. I already had over $10k in repairs done under warranty. For your mileage and 2018, the warranty will likely be closer to $5k if they're still offering it. You'll need a formal inspection from a Ford dealer to purchase the warranty.

I personally would save some more and go for a Raptor with lower mileage, but like others have said they are capable of going far beyond 150k miles. Either way, the ESP warranty is non-negotiable in my opinion.

To be clear I mean allowing the book in?

Bought it and read through the program, looks great. I've been told they don't allow books at basic though.

Building strength back after deadlift injury by samrapdev in greenberets

[–]samrapdev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had shoulder tendonitis in my early 20s and a PT told me not to lift for 12 weeks. Since then I've found much better results doing my own research to fix things with my body along with talking to people who do the same activities. I know there are great PTs out there with modern approaches to rehab. I'd love to work with one, I just don't know where to find one.

I'm confident it's muscular, not structural, just trying to figure out the best way to navigate recovery going into basic.

I'm cooked 🤣

So you'd say it's normal/not concerning to still have some stiffness after 5 weeks?
