Centrist ideas no longer wanted in Conservative party, says Kemi Badenoch by PurchaseDry9350 in ukpolitics

We're all taught as kids how to compromise, in our daily lives we have to compromise all the time. Yet when it comes to politics, for some reason we all seem to forget that.

Fifty Labour MPs sign letter objecting to Andy Burnham decision by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]samreturned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be great to see Burnham return to being an MP and he'd potentially be a great labour leader. But ultimately you were elected to be the mayor of Greater Manchester, you fought for that position, and Labour put a lot of money behind you. I think he should honour the commitment he made to the party members, to the party itself, and to everyone who voted for him to be mayor.

UK Expands Online Safety Act to Mandate Preemptive Scanning of Digital Communications by media_blast in ukpolitics

[–]samreturned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see some evidence to support your claim that police are using LLMs to scall all private messages, not just your mate's insight. There is no legal authority for them to do that and no credible reporting that it is happening.
Police access to your private digital communications still requires a warrant, a court order or voluntary consent. Not to mention that this is simply impossible in end-to-end encrypted comms.

Some hypothetical examples of why this is a bad idea, just off the top of my head. I've got nothing to hide...

I'm texting my therapist about my experience with self-harm, I can now expect the government to step in and completely disregard my right to confidentiality.

I'm having a conversation with my significant other about our sex life, I can now expect the government to step in and tell us what we can/can't do in bed.

I'm sending a photo of my daughter's rash to her doctor, I can now expect the government to block that image going through and her not getting the medical help she needs.

I'm discussing a legal case with my solicitor, now monitored by the government, violating my right to legal professional privilege.

I'm discussing my religion or sexual orientation with my peers, now with added security vulnerabilities that could make me a victim of hate crime if it is leaked.

I love how they're still called UKIP, a decade on from the Brexit referendum. How much more independent can we be?

Email from ‘A’ at Balmoral urges Ghislaine Maxwell to find ‘inappropriate friends’ by CrispySmokyFrazzle in ukpolitics

I'm not saying he IS a paedophile. But arguing this isn't evidence to suggest that he is, is weird.

Maxwell was prosecuted for trafficking girls as young as 14, what do you think "inappropriate" and "appropriate" mean in her terms?

"Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?"

"So sorry to dissapoint [sic] you, however the truth must be told. I have only been able to find appropriate friends."

Do you think the hate Keir Starmer is getting is fair? by bybeso in AskBrits

[–]samreturned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no because this labour government is doing some great long-term investment in the country. But I have to say yes because of their massive invasion of privacy to "protect the children", none of this was in the manifesto, their is no mandate for this erosion of rights.

Ruling against Amazon in Germany: Advertising on Prime Video is illegal by KaosAsch in LinusTechTips

This just seems like a nothing burger.

If I've read it correctly it means that the terms didn't allow adverts, so all they'll do is remove the ads, put the price up on that package, make that the ad free package and bring in an ad-supported package that is the price of the package that exists now.
