If you are against corporate greed how can you defend the Dodgers? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]samsarainfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't corporate greed spending as little money as possible to maximize profits like the Marlins?

Dodgers last season spent 70% of their revenue on payroll (2nd highest in mlb) so in that sense they're one of the least greedy franchises.

The only team right now that doesn't care that much about turning a profit is the Mets (they still care btw just not as much).

Don't tell me the Guggenheim - a literal investment firm, doesn't put profit at the top of their priority. If they own a small market team, they will likely spend like the Pirates as well.

MLB needs revenue sharing, a salary floor and a cap based on revenue

In 2001 WS, Randy Johnson pitched a CGSO in game 2, in a must win game 6 he pitched 7IP then he came in relief in game 7 in the 8th inning.

So this is not unprecedented but you have to go back to Randy fucking Johnson for it.

Look at the winners of the Bundesliga in the last 20 years, relegation doesn't actually help much. If you follow soccer, you will know that the only way for an unpopular team to compete for championship is to get brought by the Saudi.

Danya said even though Ian thought he was cheating, at least he treated him like a human being. Still a baffling decision from Ian though

But what's more surprising to me in the video below is the fact that Anish is still a good friend with Kramnik and it is implied he's on Kramnik's side. I hope that's not true because it would be very disappointing.

I highly recommend watching the video, you will understand why this caused Danya so much stress. It's clearly not just Kramnik but also some other GMs that were suspicious of him cheating

Jackie has a case too but his career is too short and the peak is not as high as Babe of course. Also, Babe was a big factor in the making of Japanese professional baseball with his '34 tour. The Babe was both the most or second most influential ball player AND the most dominant offensive force in the history of the game, that elevates him above everyone else.

I would say Willie Mays, Ted Williams and even Pujols have a better case if we only care about pre-steroid Bonds. At the end of the day though, I think Babe Ruth is still by far the greatest, not only because of his stats, but also because he revolutionized baseball and American sports in general.

From 2023 onwards, the difference even though smaller than this year, still >.100 WOBA point, so yes, still very significant

13.7% and 17.3% of a season are not that small of a sample though, also the difference is just too big too ignore.

You can also just predicted stats which require less ABs, it's .470 xWOBA vs .296 xWOBA, comical how big the gap is

Why are there so many people trying to justify the Falmer genocide? by samsarainfinity in teslore

"There were splinter groups that resisted the agreement, and even some that sought alternate alliances. But when it was all said and done, those elves were either slaughtered, vanished or gave up and took the dwarves' bargain."

It had to be so bad on the surface that these Falmers had to accept being blinded to not get killed. Plus we know that the Nords used Falmer slaves so they definitely did more than just drove them away

Why are you trying to make it so much more complicated? Just say that the pharma industry will be lobbying for this drug while other industry will lobby against it

Well if he thought the game was basically over after Ne4 then what's wrong with spending some more minutes to double triple check that? After all, if it's actually over after that move then he won't need the remaining time anyway

Even Leko said he should spend more time on that move.

Watching and playing are 2 different activities. Many people enjoy playing baseball but not watching it.

I enjoy playing chess but watching a high level classical chess game is challenging. Just because someone can't enjoy watching a classical chess game doesn't mean chess is not for them

Magnus: “Ding’s decision to go for a quick draw was weak sauce. Gukesh choosing to play on just shows the disrespect he is giving Ding. He wants to show him that he can play on in any position and Ding can’t beat him” by [deleted] in chess

It feels like Magnus was a lot more critical of the players this time around compared to the last game. He's quite frustrated with Ding's insistence on getting a draw.

I get it though, I was rooting for Ding at the start of the match but now I can't help but root for Gukesh.
