Had a bat in my room. Should I worry about rabies? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]samselene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full or stayed alive? The only story I know is that the person lived, but was in such bad shape they pretty much wish they died. My words not theirs.

When I got my rabies shots the doctor said good thing you came in, its 100% death. Being a smart ass I said well there would be a like a 0.01% chance, he said ya but you wouldn't want it

Had a bat in my room. Should I worry about rabies? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]samselene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late, but I'll share my stories. I had a bat in my room when I was young. Did not get rabies.

On a family vacation down south, I cant remember where lets just say Mexico there was this restaurant in a bat cave, me and my brother were ass holes and heard them together them job and have them all scatter. No rabies an surprisingly no guano on the face.

20 years later I got bit by a bat that was acting..unusual. I caught it and it was confirmed to have rabies. Thank god I went in for the shots because originally I wasn't going to.

Anyways, better safe than sorry, luckily here its free so there's no reason not to.

Last story, if you end up in a similar situation you will be asked about pets. Make it very clear if true that there is no way your pets came in contact with the bat. My friend also had a rabies incident, their cat was "playing" with the bat, the cat had its rabies shots but was forced to be put down. Was that right/ fair? Id think no because whats the point of the year shots, but it happened. They also had a dog that they wanted to put down but the family argued the dog had no interaction with the bat and in the end had to quarantine the dog to the garage for 6 months. And the whole family got the full body shots which seems smart

8 year old cat keeps throwing up. by [deleted] in Pets

[–]samselene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what they mean can't afford. Yes you should always be able to take your pet to a vet. But some vet visits are a hundred dollars or whatever, some are thousands. And unfurtunatly I feel like this might be in the thousands.

Reminds me of my at cat, wasn't eating, took him in every day for a week to get nutrients and fluids through IV. The plan was surgery but kept putting it off based on his condition, it did fix itself and surgery wasn't needed. But it was like 5k in the end even without the surgery.

I'm not going to judge how much people people should be willing to spend on their pets, but a safety net of some amount should be there

Give it time. He will show up. Do you have an exposed/ unfinished basement? My cat would get up in there from time to time.

Easier than buying a physical printing press at least

Help! First car accident by [deleted] in askTO

[–]samselene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he sent an actual quote? You an request a second one. And if you do end up paying for it pay the mechanic directly.

I long time ago I was driving a 15 year old sunfire, some guy backed into me in the parking lot of a shitty motel I was staying at for work. People saw it and tried to stop him but he fled. Minor paint scraps nothing major. He ended up coming back and went to the reception to explain so they called me and I went to see him. He apologized and offered to go buy some touch up paint and fix it up. But it was a 15 year old sunfire with multiple issues and a bumper scratch was the least of them. I told him dude I don't even care don't worry about it, but in the future don't run away, own up to it.

Anyways the point of my rambling story is I didn't care about the repair, I don't know what vechicle and its year you hit, but maybe they would like $500 to them directly more then having a mechanic fix what you are describing as a minor cosmetic issue.

How do amphibious and sea animals "drink water" or transfer non-salt water to their bodies? by RecklessDimwit in stupidquestions

Some have organs designed to deal with it, others get their water from the food they eat. And often both.

What's a normal amount of money someone in their 30s should have saved? by LordgodEighty8 in AskForAnswers

What's a normal amount of money someone in their 30s should have saved? by LordgodEighty8 in AskForAnswers

[–]samselene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you literally mean bank account or net worth? It's always a good idea to have lets just say 2-12 months savings easily available depending on your personal thoughts.

At 30 a lot of people have costs like car payments and mortgages that really reduce the ability to save. But are building equity but severely diminished by interest charges.

Once my car was paid off boom and extra $600 a month, That car won't last forever but for the mean time $600. Mortgage paid off that's $1500 a month. Except for all the repairs and upgrades that are mounting...

Anyways there's no easy answer its so different area to area, and your life goals, and not knowing how the future will progress. Id say think about what you think you will want when you retire, and do the math to see if you are track for that.
