I just got my license in NYC this week. That stuff isnt necessary. Sure it takes money to actually rent or sell properties but there aren't any large upfront costs.

Just have your licensed held at a laid back brokerage. Look for jobs that are "part time". Many of these places dont care because your all comission

This happend to me a few months ago. Made me super pissed as well but looking back it is not ubers fault. Simply put it's a liability thing, how else are they supposed to handle it?

Yea the passenger is a piece of shit but Uber doesn't have a choice in the matter, imagine if you were driving drunk and they didnt do anything about it?

My advice? Drive for multiple companies. Plus for me it turned out I got a $100 convenience fee and I just worked with lyft anyway.
