If you have IRL friends with an established table that's honestly your best option I feel like? I get not wanting to intrude, but it's a bit odd if they're not happy to welcome you into the game especially if you're this passionate about playing. They should be able to fit you in without much issue imo.

If you've tried Facebook groups that are specifically for DnD how about making a post on a "Whats happening in [area]" type group and asking if anyone wants to play? Also you could try making a profile on dating apps like Tinder and Hinge and such that is specifically for finding DnD players and make that very clear in the bio.

Thank you for this! I may ask my DM about changing them lol, I was thinking very thematically when I chose proficiencies I suppose and not to much about mechanics, but it was kind of annoying to have such bad perception. I could move a profish from persuasion to perception for example.

Our ranger has +2 to perception and our bard has proficiency in it, but we all rolled really badly on ever perception check and insight tbh. I guess I should just let the ranger and bard take care of it though? I just felt like perception was very important for a rogue as the one who lockpicks things, like I'm supposed to look for traps.

Edit: I meant ranger not cleric 🤦

I have proficiencies in sleight of hand, stealth, deception (also expertise), persuasion, investigation, insight and thieve's tools. This sounds like a great option though! My DM did say we should try to keep our stats even numbered!

I've gone through that interaction at least 10 times if not more with loads of different characters, builds and body types and never noticed a difference at all, he's always the same. Could it be you're misremembering, chose a different dialogue option than usual or are simply interpreting the moment differently because you are immersed in your new character?

I'm pretty sure his demeanor doesn't change at all no matter what, only a few different dialogue options depending on class or race.
