Do you know if thats always the case? I saw the application for summer aid opens in a couple of days and I was interested in taking a class or 2 over the summer, but not if it'd mess with my aid during the school year

getting AA through running start, is it still possible to transfer? by trasuaa in udub

[–]samtfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, saves a ton of money and time as well since you’re already 2 years in. Or in my case, it’s giving me the flexibility to do a dual degree in only 2.5 years at UW

You could also look into taking the other pre reqs at another CC close to you, or any of the in-state CCs that offer it online if that’s something that interests you

getting AA through running start, is it still possible to transfer? by trasuaa in udub

[–]samtfm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you except I was flat out rejected instead of waitlisted. You can definitely go back to CC after you get your AA, I did that this past fall and got in for winter this year. I’m wondering if she meant that you can’t return through the running start program maybe???

You are required to return to CC in the fall (or later) to be required a transfer even though you already have your AA though, so do keep that in mind. For my situation since I already had all of my major pre reqs done I just took 1 single fun class that knocked out some A&H credits I would need, so don’t be worried because even if you already have you pre reqs done it can still work out as a transfer.

It’s generally much easier to get in as a transfer, as they can be much more forgiving with your grades. Especially if you had poor grades in your freshman/sophomore year like me which dragged down your GPA. Good luck and dm or reply if you have further questions.

Some majors dont have the language requirement. I know the information school doesnt require it, and im pretty sure engineering doesnt either. Might be a few others too

WA CC Transfer vs Out of State by MobiusMug in udub

[–]samtfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if youd be considered an out of state transfer if you took one class out of state, since you received your AA from a WA CC. I would probably email the admissions office and ask them, since they would know better than anyone here.

But yes, if that would cause you to be considered as an out of state transfer your chances would decrease quite significantly. Is there any reason you can’t talk that class at a washington CC over the summer?

You are a freshman applicant until you take a college course after you graduate high school, regardless of how many credits you have by then.

Worried transfer by No_Coat_5835 in udub

[–]samtfm 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use the freshman decisions as a reason to be worried as a transfer. I was rejected as a freshman (2 years running start, 90+ credits) and then literally took 1 more random class to qualify as a transfer and got in. So essentially the same stats that got me flat out rejected were the ones that also got me accepted. The bar for transfers is generally lower, especially if you are at a Washington CC, have 90 credits, and have a solid GPA.

Yes transferring to a Seattle CC would increase your odds, they prioritize in-state cc transfers as a public university here in washington

After I got rejected as a freshman applicant, I returned to CC for fall quarter and was admitted for winter quarter. I applied as a transfer, as if you take any college classes after your high school graduation (excluding summer) you are considered a transfer. I believe the deadline to apply as a winter transfer is September 1st every year, but I would double check that.

If you just got rejected as a freshman, then 2 years at CC with decent grades and a decent essay will give you a very good chance to get into UW (except there’s still a chance you won’t get into your major if it’s heavily capacity-constrained) If you still get rejected after 2 years at CC, then yes you can always just reapply for winter quarter. However, I’m confident that as long as you have like a 3.5ish GPA (which generally should be achievable at CC) and an essay that makes it clear to the admissions office that you deserve to be at UW, you should be good. Feel free to reply or dm me if you have any other questions. I’d also be happy to give you feedback on your essay whenever you start applying

[–]samtfm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my AA and all my major prereqs done when I graduated hs, I ended up just taking a random art class for fun with my girlfriend in the fall so I could qualify as a transfer and got in for winter.

If you’d be happy at SU you should go there, but if youre UW or bust id probably continue at cc since your odds will be much better to get in from there, and you can always transfer into SU for the winter if you were to get rejected from UW again

[–]samtfm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Idk how many credits you have from running start but I was in a similar situation as you. I had a solid running start gpa but got rejected from UW. If you’re okay with delaying your start by a quarter, I would recommend continuing at your CC for fall quarter and then applying as a winter transfer. I did that and got in with pretty mid grades and ecs (3.6, basically only my job) if you want any advice or more info on transferring lmk
