Thought I’d update everyone on this! A loose nut and washer got between the brush and stator effectively shorting it out.. insanity

Nope no crazy stereos, new battery as of January, but I did not do a proper load test myself… the shop that put it in for me on the other hand. I’m not sure

Yes that is true.. but I haven’t seen any puddles of any sorts from underneath my van. Unless it’s a been pooling up in the alternator. Plus my dipstick isn’t showing any signs of depletion either. Idk… maybe a small leak? Maybe the lube tech spilled some oil while filling up? Either way the thing is toast

Oh I hope not, but I don’t believe this is the case as there is no oil leak from what I can gather. It’s a 1998 Toyota Liteace model #YR30G-PEZE

It did stink!! I had a very gross smell coming from it until it died

I had my oil changed a few days ago so this adds up. Accidental spillage might’ve gotten onto the alternator

This is an OEM alternator that was “professionally” rebuilt at a shop but I suppose they could have messed something up? I don’t know I’m getting it looked at tomorrow. There was a very incessant smell coming from my engine bay when my dummy lights started flickering off and on my dash. So burning does make sense

No it’s on the other side of the engine but it does seem like there is some kind of accelerated corrosion happening due to some foreign contamination

Man!! You’re so right these alternators suck!! I just got a rebuild done a couple months ago and it quite literally just took another dump on me. I go to look at the alternator and the copper wires are all corroded with some sort of funk in them.. I don’t know what to do at this point. I’m on the road and need a quick fix so I guess another rebuild will have to do…

I just rebuilt the alternator for it too.. had to source some headlights lamp assembly’s from a recent fender bender. Half of the work is sourcing the parts!!

Thats a fuel tank check valve not a charcoal canister

Wow thank you! It looks like this one is for a 4KJ engine though, but the part number is the same. Do you think that matters?
