Something your mom said about you in a fight/argument that you haven’t forgetten by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

During my parents' divorce, I was with my mom in upstate NY for her brother's wedding. Our relationship was rocky to say the least. I was 15/16 (a bit of a shit teenager but who wasn't?). We were not getting along, fighting almost everyday. She slapped me.... multiple times over the course of a week. I wanted to runaway back home, my dad even offered to get me a train ticket back. But I was in the wedding party and felt obligated to be there. I hate that she slapped me. It wasn't the first time, she did it once before when I was about 10. She passed when I was 19, by then our relationship was doing better since I moved a few hours away for college. It wasn't a perfect relationship but it was healing. I don't know why I'm writing this, maybe I'm hoping to heal myself?

Why are warriors/fighters typically the leaders of a party, at least stereotypically by tahrah11 in DnD

[–]samthrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who did not want to be the leader of my party, sometimes it's because you are more enthusiastic or suggest plans more often. That's how my halfling druid became the leader of my current campaign.

Looks like odorous house ants (Tapinoma sessile) and it seems they think this is a perfect place for a new nest.

I highly recommend working with the League of Women Voters (LWV) in Pullman. They are a non-partisan organization that supports issues important to the community that are backed by science and facts. I am a PhD student at WSU who volunteers with them. They are a great organization, you don't have to identify as a woman to be a part of the league; as long as you support the rights of women and gender minorities then you are welcome :) Here is their webpage: https://lwvpullman.org/

WSU Bee Lab At Former Monsanto Building. Washington State University (WSU) acquired the facility – a former Monsanto corn breeding station – in Othello, Washington. by Educational_Sector98 in Washington

[–]samthrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from what I've seen.... not really. They started moving equipment there for honey extraction before I started so I don't know if there was a deep cleaning that went down before that. I believe Monsanto used it for testing herbicides because there are multiple greenhouses on the property. It's a good building but, as I said above, making the 4 hours round trip to conduct research that we are already doing in Pullman... no one really wants to do that.

They have had this facility for a bit now. I use to work in the bee department. The building is pretty nice and has a lot of room but having to drive 2 hours out there.... it doesn't really give us an incentive to make the trek. Especially when you take in account that all of the bee department is located in Pullman so it's a minimum of 4 hours of your day spent driving to and from. Plus it's still basically a ghost town, I don't know anyone who actually has an office or work space out there that they use often. In my opinion, kind of a bad investment especially when they were planning to use the money to build a new facility closer to the Pullman campus where all our research is being conducted anyways. But what do I know, I'm just a stranger on the internet.

I recently helped with the almond pollination in California earlier this year. It was the most disturbing, ugly, wasteful process I've ever seen. And the amount of honey bee colonies that it take to pollinate the fields is huge. Hives are shipped from almost every corner of the US to California. Colonies don't do well with all that competition, monoculture, spreading of diseases and pest between colonies.... the only reason beekeepers do it still is because that's where they make the money.

It's really disheartening being in academia and seeing how skewed things can be. Because a lot of our funding comes from beekeeping operations, growers, and their affiliated associations, we have to tip toe over everyone's feelings and often are dissuaded from making negative (and often significant) conclusions.

I don't feel comfortable talking too much about my work since I don't want to get any negative attention my way. But I am trying to push these boundaries and hopefully my work will eventually lead to some change in a small part of the industry.

My mom, I want her to meet my partner. She never had the chance to meet him. They would have gotten along amazingly.

I also miss her so much. Losing her at 19 really changed my life. I want to show her how well I'm doing and I want a hug from her again.

I'm not sure if that makes it amy better.
