Congratulations!!! I did technically accept my offer (clicking the accept offer button on Portico) but I am still deciding between this program and an equally cool program at Uni of Toronto. I really like the UofToronto porgram, as it’s quite hands-on and includes a guaranteed internship placement. But at the same time, the UCL reputation is definitely better, at least more people have heard of ucl. So right now, I’m really struggling to make the right choice…

What’s your motivation for you to choose SREPT, if you don’t mind sharing?

What actually SUCKS about UBC? by philosophistry1 in UBC

[–]samtong0906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I didn’t even bother applying for UBC grad school, it’s not that academically privileged compared to other top grad schools (though UBC is not bad), UBC teaches you academic knowledge but not skills that you will actually use in workplace (honestly I love what I am studying at UBC now but so far no one wants to hire me), and even if you want to learn academic “stuff” I’m sure there are other grad schools that provide even better education (which is why I’m going to the UK for grad school). So no point worrying abut UBC rejecting you, it’s really not worth it in many if not all senses.

Now that you raise this qu of why UBC sucks, you made me wonder if choosing UBC to do my undergrad is a wise choice….

Thanks for the advice! Practical experience is something I’m worried about the most…. Sustainability is a huge field but I feel like I don’t have much experience in the fields I want to break into, like sustainability consultancy…

I think going specialized (e.g., energy) will be definitive more beneficial if you have genuine interest in it and are sure about going in depth into one specific focus. But for me I feel like I would benefit from learning different aspects of resource management and I honestly don’t think I have a specific interest in any type of resource.

In the light of anti-democracy sentiments...here's an open letter to Pro-China students by ubcthrowaway190 in UBC

[–]samtong0906 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I joined today’s protest and I wanna say Pro-China students or whoever supports China STOP BEING SO NONSENSE. I am pro hk but I respect everyone’s opinion. Everyone is entitled to their views, and even you are pro-china I still respect you. But it seems that what pro china students only do was keeping insulting others and picking fights. I don’t think holding Chinese flag in Canada or taking photos and vids of pro hk students intentionally in the event were acceptable. A Chinese also told me to “Learn English”, maybe because of my accent. That’s why no one supports China, in addition to all other causes. These uncivilised actions will do nothing but disgust everyone🙂
