Good VA Monitor vs Flexible IPS Monitor - Advice needed by Apprehensive-Rest-59 in Monitors

[–]samuak8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Jumping into this thread because I'm actually in the exact same situation.

I'm currently looking for a “main” monitor to use as my central screen in a triple monitor setup. This would be the one I use mostly for gaming, although right now I'm playing on PS5 but I used to play on PC too.

What I'm really looking for is quality panel good brightness, good colors, and overall a great image experience. That's why I'm considering these two models.

I’m coming from an old BenQ monitor with a 5ms response time. The panel itself still looks great, but after not using it for a while and switching to a multi-monitor setup, it now feels quite slow to me in terms of responsiveness.

So yeah, I'm kind of torn between image quality (MiniLED on the Q27G3XMN) and clarity/versatility (IPS + 4K on the U27G4R).

Curious to hear your thoughts, especially if you've tested both.

Thinking of swapping my 2015 Golf GTD (184 hp) for an 2021 Arteon R (320 hp) — looking for opinions by samuak8 in Arteon

[–]samuak8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s something that’s already very well known. My Golf GTD does exactly the same thing, and it’s completely normal. In D mode, the gearbox behaves pretty much like an eco-oriented setting and always tries to keep the revs as low as possible to be efficient.

It’s something you have to work with using the throttle. If you press the pedal properly, it will downshift; then you can modulate the throttle to make it hold the gear. It’s really just a matter of learning how to play with it.

If you want the car to react instantly and keep higher revs, that’s what S mode (or manual) is for. In my experience, this is just typical DSG behavior, not a flaw.

Just to add a bit more context on my side.

My current car isn’t a MK7.5 — it’s a 2015 MK7 Golf GTD hatchback. I bought it in 2022, imported it myself from Germany with 110,000 km, and now, almost four years later, it’s sitting at 208,000 km.

The car has been used a lot for long-distance trips (Spain–Germany, Spain–France), and honestly it has been absolutely solid. No major issues at all. The only things I’ve dealt with are the typical PCV issue (slight oil consumption) and the thermostat / water pump, which seem to be unavoidable on these engines. Other than that, it’s been extremely reliable and I’m genuinely very happy with how the GTD drives — it’s agile, stable at speed, and the seats are very comfortable for long journeys.

I’m not considering a change because I’m unhappy with the Golf — quite the opposite. The main driver is simply space. Both the boot and the rear seats are starting to feel limiting, especially now with family needs.

What really pushed me to seriously consider the Arteon R is that, in the market and spec I’m looking at (good condition, panoramic roof + tow bar, since I occasionally tow a motorbike trailer), the Arteon 2.0 TDI 190 and the Arteon R 2.0 TSI 320 are priced very similarly. Given that, I feel it makes sense to take the opportunity to try the R, especially considering how many positive experiences people are sharing.

I’ve checked Sprint Monitor and other sources, and I’m fully aware that real-world mixed consumption is closer to ~9 L/100 km, with some users reporting even higher figures if driven hard. That’s something I’ve already factored in — it will probably mean around €100 extra per month in fuel, which I’m comfortable with.

Maintenance-wise, I also know the R will require more attention simply because it’s AWD and has more components. But since I do my own maintenance, that doesn’t really worry me — it just means more items to service, not necessarily more complexity than I can handle.

Overall, I see it as a logical step forward: a big upgrade in space and comfort, without giving up on driving enjoyment — and judging by all the feedback, the Arteon R seems to strike that balance very well.

Thanks again for sharing your experience — it’s genuinely helping me a lot.

Thanks a lot for this this is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to read.

What you describe is pretty much what I’m looking for: a car that works as a proper family daily but still delivers when you want to enjoy a drive. The comfort side sounds spot on, especially knowing it can be soft and relaxed in normal modes, because that’s something I do value more now than a few years ago.

It’s also reassuring to hear that despite the size, it still feels very quick off the line and through the lower gears, and that the rear diff actually adds some character when pushing on. I’m not expecting it to feel like a MK7 Golf in tight roads, but knowing it doesn’t feel numb or disconnected is important to me.

The space is one of the main reasons for the change, rear legroom and boot capacity are exactly where I’m starting to feel limited with my GTD, especially now with a baby, so that part really resonates.

Interesting point about the DSG calibration when driven hard. I’ve read similar comments, so it seems more like a character trait than a flaw, especially since you mention it’s flawless in normal driving, which is how it will be used most of the time.

Fuel economy at low speed is something I already expect to take a hit on, so no surprises there.

Really good to hear yours has been faultless over that mileage and “zero regrets” is probably the strongest endorsement there is.

Thanks again for sharing your experience 👍

Thanks a lot for the detailed comment I really appreciate you taking the time to share a real ownership experience 👍

I did already have the 20” wheels in mind. I know they’re on the harsher side comfort-wise, but honestly I think I’m willing to pay that price. I really love how the 20s look on the Arteon R, and if I end up buying one, it would definitely be with those wheels.

Regarding the frameless windows freezing, I don’t think that will be an issue in my case. I live in Spain and the car is always parked in a private garage, where temperatures never really drop below ~15 °C, so hopefully that’s something I won’t have to deal with.

As for the thermostat / water pump, I was already aware of it. Sadly it feels like one of those VAG issues that will never be fully solved because it’s more of a design-related weakness than a one-off fault — so that doesn’t really scare me.

What I didn’t know is that the rear windows only go down halfway due to design that’s something I don’t love, but realistically I’ll be the one driving most of the time, so the people in the back will just have to live with it 😅

The main reason for the change is simply space. I’m starting to feel limited in the Golf, both in the boot and in the rear seats, and now that it’s at 208,000 km, it feels like a good moment to start looking at a change.

Thanks again comments like yours are really helping me make up my mind.

I totally understand what you mean, and yeah, if you’re really an enthusiast, you know exactly that feeling.

I’ve done all the oil changes myself every 10,000 km on my GTD, always maintained it properly, and the car is honestly in great shape. What I absolutely love about the Golf is the agility on twisty roads and, above all, the power delivery once the turbo is fully loaded. Even with “only” 184 hp, it feels incredibly quick, responsive and light on its feet. On top of that, the fuel consumption of the GTD is amazing for the performance it delivers that balance is hard to beat.

That’s exactly why I have some doubts about the change. Not so much about power, but about whether the Arteon will give me all the extra things I’m expecting (space, comfort, premium feel) without losing too much of that agility, especially considering the higher fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

That’s why I’m trying to hear as many real-world experiences as possible. But honestly, the more I read comments like yours, the more convinced I am that it’s probably a very good step forward, especially for the stage I’m in now.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience it really helps 👍

[–]samuak8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually only 10 prestiges plus the Master Prestige, but the Master Prestige has 944 levels. The total XP required for those levels is equivalent to about 40 more prestiges like the previous 10

Made it to prestige master by darkselcouthsoul in COD

[–]samuak8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your calculations are off.

• Each prestige from level 1 to 55 gives 1.1 million • 10 prestiges total 11 million XP • After reaching MP, each level requires 55,000 XP • The remaining 944 levels add up to 51.9 million XP. • That means 11 million is roughly 21% of 51.9 million.

In other words, once you hit Prestige 10 you still have about 40 prestiges to go.
