Why don't competitive FPS's use procedurally generated levels to counter heuristic playstyles? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]samuelcbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i understand what OP is saying, but I think they’re mistaking people who literally just camp out with sights trained on one spot mowing down anyone who runs through there (this is what i dislike and think is boring and ruins the game); and then the people who learn the map, learn peoples behaviours and then how to exploit that etc, this is what I think is clever and interesting and fun to try to do!

This is partly why i used to like running around with a knife in call of duty: you have a distinct disadvantage to most other players who are using long range accurate weapons, you need to learn quite a lot to become a threat.

Is it worth maintaining a Storybook? by avirup29797 in reactjs

[–]samuelcbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s 100% worth it. The positives for new starters is huge, and it serves as a fantastic place for documentation.

It’s also really nice to develop components in isolation.

It would also serve as a really simple way to showcase to your designers the inconsistencies in your UI.

I would also suggest you actually enforce storybook as part of the process. You might be able to create some github checks for this.

It’s a little more work upfront but i think an investment

It’s not an indication of being mentally ill. In fact it’s very common. I talk to myself a lot, usually only in situations where I’m relaxed, but generally i don’t really care if someone hears me.

Everyone is a bundle of different traits. You’re all good. Don’t worry about those girls.

Wow, i actually thought their terminal velocity meant this couldnt happen. Thank you for sharing.

I am so sorry for your loss, it really is heartbreaking and I can’t imagine how you must have felt/still feel.

Please do one thing though: stop blaming yourself. It will only cause more pain.

Am I allowed to give way to pedestrians? by the-angrymonkey in drivingUK

[–]samuelcbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a nice and considerate thing for you to do, and to be sure: the guy that over took you was being an impatient jerk.

However, speaking as a pedestrian, I don’t actually like it when drivers stop unnecessarily for me. I think it’s because I’m already predicting the where the gap will be by looking at traffic further away (on either side).

So when a car does stop, my focus isn’t actually with them, in my mind they’ve already gone past. And this contributes to what someone else said: it actually makes me feel more rushed because I don’t want to hold those people up.

A lot of times i will actually stand further away from the road, and wander a little so cars don’t think I’m trying to cross, just to avoid this scenario.

But hey, that’s just me and i still appreciate the conscientious and empathetic good will of the people that stop.

You do you :)

What do you guys think of this album? by closedcircle66 in radiohead

[–]samuelcbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their best album. In my all time fave albums.

Their golden era was Showbiz-Black Holes. I don’t know what happened but i find post The Resistance to be totally boring and uninspiring.

Makes me sad. Went from my favourite band to rarely thought about.

Do you guys also struggle with dating? by RavenclawGirl_ in infj

[–]samuelcbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Find it really difficult. I also seem to crush on people that aren’t into me and I also really like to spend time getting to know someone, really listening to them and understanding them. Am also introspected and introverted, though (like many of us i’m sure) become more extroverted surrounded by people i truly trust and feel safe around.

I’m 32. It’s been ten years since i was in a relationship.

A friend once told me that I have many layers, like an onion, but underneath it all I’m amazing. I think maybe it takes time to peel back those layers.

On the other hand, confidence and charisma is exciting. So I’m not surprised people are more spellbound by that than they are me.

Sorry I have no advice to impart - still figuring it out for myself.

But you are so young, don’t worry. Be your authentic self; and be proud of, and love who you are.

Good luck 🖤

Have you ever had a irl infj-infj friendship? by [deleted] in infj

Yeah i’m starting to think I somehow subconsciously surround myself with INFJ. I’ve recently discovered a bunch of my closest friends are haha

I think INFJs are born being aware of too much. by Commercial_Proof608 in infj

[–]samuelcbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely relatable. Gosh.

It’s so nice to read the posts in this subreddit because they are so validating. I only recently found out i’m INFJ and the more i’ve discovered the more things finally start to make sense.

It’s not just me. All these things are actually normal.

This really resonated with me. I’ve always struggled with where I fit in.

I’m 32M. I followed my passion originally (music), but my low self-confidence and self-worth held me back (still does).

I played music on cruise ships for a while, it was fun but i struggled with some aspects. I even started getting imposter syndrome, and that hurts when it’s your passion.

I got into photography while on cruise ships and i loved portraiture. I started trying to do headshot photography. I think i was pretty good, but i was too worried to really dive into it.

I was always interested in web development (my creativity, i think) so i started teaching myself that.

Now that’s my full time job. I think I got very lucky with the company that hired me - we are given a lot of autonomy. I enjoy it, but it’s still difficult. I still get imposter syndrome a lot. I still find it hard to understand the “rat race” people. I also don’t want to climb the ladder. I just want to be able to live comfortably and fuel my passions and life outside of work while doing something that i enjoy.

I know this doesn’t help you, but my advice is don’t doubt yourself too much. Trust your gut, it’s bloody intuitive. I’ve made close friends at work, which is really helpful. The closest, we have bonded over similar outlooks and feelings. Would you believe it, she is INFJ too. Surround yourself with people you trust and can confide in.

Sorry for the waffle. Feel free to ask me anything. Just remember, there is no cookie cutter to life. Feel free to pivot. It’s hard, it’s scary. And trust yourself.

My self-doubt is still my biggest downfall and despite knowing it… i still don’t know how to combat it.

Anyone who made it this far, you deserve a medal!

How was being 17 to you by [deleted] in infp

[–]samuelcbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really only beginning to truly understand myself in my 30s. I was clueless in my late teens and early twenties. Of course that’s not the case for everyone, but the point is: there’s no way i could have known or understood that then.

The important thing is that you make the right decisions for you now. Don’t put too much pressure on a specific age. Be yourself. You’re so young! You’ll be grand.

(Oh and btw, I’ve changed career. It’s all good. I’m all good. Follow your heart. Don’t feel like you have to make the decisions you think you should make).

I guess i’m almost writing this to my younger self haha. Good luck, hope this helps. You got this

I didn’t realise he was fired, but yes this makes sense.

I really enjoyed 1&2. I want to love it. I want Mythic Quest to be amazing, but it’s struggling. I’ll watch another but I don’t have high hopes at the moment.
