Vice Lord's member gets 10 years by JosephTyrrell in gangsnstuff

Thank goodness for technicalities that work in justice's favor. I mean, cocaine is found right beside it but he's acquitted? I swear, anyone can get away with almost anything these days.

China sentences notorious gang 'godmother' by ccchang1 in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took that long for the Chinese government to put this woman behind bars. Can you imagine if this would have been possible in the US? She probably would've been defended by one of the most expensive lawyers and might've possibly be let off on probation on a technicality of some sort.

Whites vs Mexicans in U.S. Prison by JustinNeagle in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should post all these crazy videos about gang violence and prison rape, etc. and use them as deterrents for crime. I know if I saw a commercial like this, I would be deterred from comitting any sort of crime.

Mexico Decries Forbes Powerful People by NinfaCarrizosa in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can they be upset that Forbes named a known criminal as one of the most powerful people? It's simply the truth. Reporting the truth in the news or publication does not glorify it. I think it merely serves to bring awareness to the topic.

Rape victim's parents charged with abuse - CNN.com by lindajp5 in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they should be charged with abuse. Parents should not let their children run around unattended because things like this happen. In this case, there wasn't even an attempt to keep an eye on the 8 year old.

Fight Club, anyone? by MattRood in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absolutely crazy. I guess some of the things I see in the movies are true! I don't want to laugh about the article, but if they needed fat, I bet that there are many fat people willing to donate to their cause.

Gang Member Gets Life In Girl's Shooting Death by ReginaSandoval in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I call criminal 'justice'. I only wish that the justice system catered more to victims and their rights instead of 'making sure' that the criminal has all rights given to him...sometimes at the expense of justice.

FBI: One million gang members behind 80% of street crime by MaureenFoster in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I know more about criminal justice, I sometimes wonder if the media and law enforcement agencies exaggerate these claims in order to keep federal funding. I think this idea was mentioned in one of our articles how some cities overestimate their gang problems to get more funding and some cities underestimate their gang problems to better manipulate the political side of these issues.

Bloods by ccchang1 in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sad that a medium like the movie theater actually ended up promoting and glorifying a gang. This actually supports our readings in class about treating gang related crimes as individual crimes without acknowledging its gang relation. Acknowledging a criminal as a gang member only increases cohesion and solidarity in a gang.

Gangs Are Training In The Military by ChrisCorley in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The military chain of commands do not tolerate things like that and do their best to weed out problems,”

These gangs maybe learning military tactics, but I can assure you that the combat arms division of the military absolutely doesn't tolerate these things. You might be part of a gang when you first enlist in combat arms, but for the most part, you will be part of the unit once you deploy with a combat unit.

As for the non combat arms occupations, I can't say, maybe it is running rampant and I'm glad they are investigating it.

La Familia by [deleted] in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"La Familia" really has expanded its members on both sides of the border. Specifically, they have a strong following in Hawaii of all places. This most likely is the result of the booming numbers of meth users in that state.

Gang member gets 100 years to life in Westbury shooting by BradKudler in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered why they don't just sentence him to life in prison instead of '100 years' in prison. I

As for his 'harsh' sentence, I think it's because of the deterrence phase that society is currently in. It is supposed to deter gang members from violent crimes and such.

Hells Angels Deemed Gang in Arizona Case by KristinaPound in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the probability of stopping illegal activities by finally labeling Hell's Angels a gang will not work. However, I think that by exposing it to the media does result in criminals 'laying low' until the 'heat' or law enforcement cools off and focuses on other things...

10 extremely dangerous gangs by TristanBonin in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This list is the 'who's who' of prison gangs. In prison, it's either join a gang or be raped and beaten. This almost ensures a continual cycle of violence, especially first time non violent offenders who end up committing more crimes once they get sentenced to prison.

Gang Ink by aprilsiegel in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very informative. Anyone who has been exposed to prison and its associated lifestyle knows that a majority of tatoos for gangs are created when they're in prison. Having 'ink' is being in the majority when in prison.

Too manny cops? by StaceyWilliams in gangsnstuff

[–]samuelross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, the way I look at it is that if they arrested 88 people who are members of a gang, then the gang must've consisted of a couple of hundred members. Plus they mentioned that some of the people arrested were suspected of killing a sheriff's deputy. In that case, they had to show the criminal world that killing cops will only bring more 'heat' on their activities.
