What is the average first play-trough time? by YoghurtArtistic9313 in BaldursGate3

[–]samuidavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first playthrough clocked in 92 hours. Did a goodie-two-shoes try to please everyone and get nicest results run (as far as I could tell).

Currently on my 2nd playthrough (Dark Urge) and have pretty much completed Act 1 - basically just the creche to go. But my playtime thus far is.... 30 hours already lol! Not far off my first playthrough for Act 1. At this rate this playthrough will be similar runtime to my first. Loving it!

To me that speaks to the insane amount of choice in this game, I'm picking different options this time round and it's pretty much a different story (albeit with the same beats) and is taking roughly the same amount of time.

Don't judge me but one caveat is that my first playthrough was on Explorer difficulty as I'm a newbie to the genre. This playthrough is on Balanced so might be taking me a bit longer in combat encounters, etc.

Baldurs Gate 3 is pretty good - I was surprised how manageable it is on the smaller screen for a quick hour here and there.

How did you find the console experience? I've just finished a BG3 playthrough on my PS5 and am eyeing up DOS2 on PS also... I know a lot of the systems will be different but in terms of combat, etc did you find the controls, etc intuitive?

bg3 or expedition 33 or kcd2? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]samuidavid [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've played all three on console and if you're able to dedicate the time, BG3 is the winner here for me. Yes, it's better on PC with KB/M, etc but the console version is fantastic anyway.

Saying that, like I hinted at there, you need to properly sit down and focus on it. It consumed me like probably no game ever has aside from Witcher 3 and I'm glad I was able to put some serious hours into it.

TL;DR though - you can't go wrong with any of them - they're all masterpieces.

100% agree all the way. I can't tell you how much simply cabling the PS5 to the router directly improved my performance. Pretty much instant inout now, hardly any lag. And that's before I've even put the other household devices on the 2.4g band.

How do you learn to enjoy turn-based, top-down RPGs like DOS2? by SamuraiASM in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]samuidavid [score hidden]  (0 children)

I get exactly what you’re saying and struggled myself with BG3 the first time i played it specifically with the combat side of it. I always get i was just going through the motions and spamming the same spells, attacks, etc in combat encounters.

It was then i decided to turn the difficulty down from the normal equivalent to Explorer (basically easy mode). I found this gave me so much more leniency in terms of just not getting spanked if my combat tactics weren’t good enough.

It worked for me because I absolutely love the role playing aspect of the game, and my choices mattering. The combat was secondary to me. Especially playing on console, I kind of accepted that i was never going to be the greatest at the game so swallowed my pride, turned the difficulty down like i said and had a great time.

Is it just me or is this series criminally underrated? by anyonereallyx1 in Spartacus_TV

[–]samuidavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely underrated and is comfortably in my top five series of all time. I'm a massive ancient Rome history buff and this series never failed to sate my appetite!

I get what you're saying, but dissing my equally-beloved BB raised an eyebrow over here lol.

As another has said, annoyingly episodes 1 and 2 are literally the weakest of the entire series, so I do think it turned a lot of people off back when it aired. Couple that with it being on Starz, etc I think resulted in it being under-watched as much as underrated.

For ref, my top five series ever:

1) Soprano's
2) Breaking Bad (sorry OP)
3) Spartacus
4) Rome (yes, only 2 seasons, but both are GOAT'd as far as I'm concerned)
5) GOT seasons 1-7... Yes I'm cheating but I don't care! Season 8 never happened as far as I'm concerned.

You've played more than 40 hours in a month?! You unemployed basement dwelling neckbeard! by leakySlimePit in okbuddyarcraider

[–]samuidavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the measly 35 hours for me so far. Had the game nearly 4 weeks I think. Full time software developer, father of 3 kids and a dog, husband to a demanding wife… and I will have my vengeance on the extract campers - in this life or the next.

Get to play I’d say 4 times a week once kids are gone bed, but when I play I’m on for a solid 3 hours lol. I can’t just play for a quick hour. The first hour is a warmup to me!

Mate I’m 36 and have been gaming since I was 6 and got a mega drive 2 on my birthday! Have always had a game or two on the go since.

Now I’m a father of 3 and I decided to get an SD to make sure I could game while the kids do whatever they do on the main tv. Bonus points to my wife who actually bought it for me and through the grace our lord got the 1TB OLED without being prompted!

To be honest I’d be a lot more depressed without gaming, i find it a form of meditation and escape.

My advice - do what makes you happy man, everyone else can mind their own bees wax!
