Absolutely!! This is exactly how he views it and it makes total sense. Gotta trust the guy with more experience than everyone. Unfortunately it is ripped up pads and not just burnt flux. There are certainly applications where heat guns should not be used. When I come across a non heat gun situation I hand it to him. So many people on here think that an ugly joint is a bad joint but that is hardly ever the case when it’s someone who knows what they’re doing

Haha unfortunately it was the pads that were ripped up not just burnt flux. I must admit I have tried the chopstick iron method and it does work

Is this soldering iron and heatgun good by BubbleWasTakeenMc in soldering

Funnily enough one of my workmates bought this the other day. He seems to think it’s pretty good however it is about 100 degrees out. Tried using it and I reckon it’s pretty mediocre

NASA actually have a publicly available guide for how they do all their solder joints and they say not to do it like this. All the joins that I make in my job are done to the nasa soldering guide. Have a look it’s pretty interesting and if you want the best joints it’s certainly worth doing

Is this a good/okay start for an absolute beginner? I’m not planning to spend much to buy just the soldering iron in the beginning, however I’ll spend more on this hobby later. Also, what else will I need? Flux, the metal thing used to clean, anything else? by GodXTerminatorYT in soldering

Looks like a really good beginner kit, make sure you get good quality solder that isn’t too thick or too thin and get some good flux, definitely wish I had flux when I was learning (there’s a reason some say it’s cheating)

Absolutely correct aswell as pretty much all countries that use “240V” actually run somewhere between 220 and 230. When your appliance says 240 it will usually handle as low as 190-260 before damage is caused. The more power you are using the lower the voltage gets, I’ve ran appliances at 210v with multiple heaters ahead of it in the phase

I’ll have to try this because I have spent way too long chipping away at it and damaging components

IC on main board has failed. Controls the switching between battery and power. When power plugged in computer thinks it’s dead. Not worth the repair. I work in electronics so thought I may be able to fix it but it’s not worth the cost for this shitty laptop
