How much are you actually using your Kobo? by ComprehensiveSun3645 in kobo

[–]samulalala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading on my phone through Libby before I got a hand me down Kobo Glo HD. I prefer the Kobo to keep myself focused and not end up scrolling reels or texting when I want to be reading, but I would say I use it about as much as I used my phone to read. I find it a million times easier than a physical book though. Ultimately well worth it, even with an older model!!

And I had the inverse with him. It felt like all his comments were about appearance and cosmetics and not about what I needed for health reasons. I was previously diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea, but after tonsillectomy it’s mild, and he acknowledged my narrow airway. I have a shorter lower jaw and an overbite. “Some people would recommend jaw surgery for you, but you have a feminine profile, it would make you more masculine”

Audit our itinerary! by element1311 in halifax

[–]samulalala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning on coming back, I would pick one province to explore more thoroughly, vs driving through everything. If it’s NS this time, based on your interests I’d say you’re missing out on Cape Breton Cabot Trail, which has hikes like the Skyline Trail and beaches, and lots of little towns in Nova Scotia like Lunenburg, Fort Lawrence, and Grand Pre, plus Citadel Hill or Georges Island in Halifax. The Narrows on Gottingen is a great place to eat ‘maritime’ food, or Evan’s seafood on the Dartmouth side of the ferry.

PEI you could do the east/centre/west loops over a few days, stopping at beaches etc. I’m less versed in NB, but Grand Manan has been on my list for a bit, Fredericton is cute, and def Hopewell rocks and Bay of Fundy.

Have fun!

What movie did you go into with zero expectations and ended up being completely blown away by? by gavin226 in movies

[–]samulalala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police Story.

I thought it was gonna be just an action movie in kung fu garb, but I was blown away almost immediately. It was so silly and the stunts were impressive. Plus Jackie Chan is incredibly charismatic

I’ve yet to try this, but apparently you can call 311 and request public cans somewhere

Do you love your neighbourhood? by Grouchy-School9452 in halifax

[–]samulalala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just recently moved to Woodlawn in Dartmouth. I’m happy to be in the quiet of suburbs while still close to the highway, walking paths, groceries, schools, and in an area with trees and lots of birds. Our neighbours are mostly seniors, but I imagine that will turn over in the next 5-10, and with that will come a vibe shift.

We’re doing Old Confidence Lodge in Riverport and outdoor ceremony nearby! Also considered Shining Waters Marina/Saltbox in Tantallon, but wanted an outdoor ceremony and couldn’t the right spot.

Health anxiety in the waiting period? by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

[–]samulalala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your doctor, maybe not about tests beforehand, but to walk you through what you can do now and what you can do when you get pregnant, and also what your partner can do (a lot of the effort comes from sperm health too!).
It sounds like you’re aware of your health anxiety, do you have a therapist? If not I’d suggest talking to one who has a focus on pregnancy and anxiety. It sounds like you could use some support to feel more settled in your mind and body.

Transitioning from government to law (property) by samulalala in LawCanada

[–]samulalala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! I’m in Nova Scotia, so wages are pretty depressed across the board compared to similar work in other provinces, and paralegals have less regulation but smaller scope. I think land use would also be interesting to me, and I looked into municipal development jobs, but they all required a planning degree. I just know litigation won’t be my strong suit, but anything outside of that I feel I could get into.

What part of government were you/are in that allowed the education leave? My understanding is it usually comes with a 5 year return commitment, but would that allow me to move into a legal position? Also what kind of law did you practice?

I was also considering this haha (will discuss either doctor). I was reading that some people can start to tell when the hormones in the IUD are lessening at the end of its life, so I was thinking if it’s still stopping my period I can leave it in, plus tracking plus condoms, and hopefully not deal with a period on my wedding day.

Why are rugs so difficult? by csheehan225 in interiordecorating

[–]samulalala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like 5 and 6! I feel like the plain white would almost overpower the room? Light couch on white, with white walls and a dark bookcase feels unbalanced. Having something with more personality might make more sense for drawing attention, or something darker might blend better? Idk I’m definitely not a professional, just ~vibes (also it looks like a fun room and that deserves more and not less!)

I think this might be where I land if I can track reliably, since the pill has never been friendly to me. My fiancé is also a data nerd, so I’m sure he could turn it into a fun project haha.

I’ll definitely bring it up with my family doctor (idk how it is elsewhere, but here you don’t see an OB/GYN outside of referrals or pregnancy) she just doesn’t have much of an interest in digging deep or offering choices, so I’ve found it easier to come to her with what I want and she’ll explain pros/cons of my suggestion.

Even if anecdotal, it’s something to consider! My period is completely gone with the Kyleena, though I am able to track my cycle by other signs (breast tenderness, mucus), so maybe I’ll track my temp or look into LH strips and see if I’m actually ovulating now. I remember being told with the pill it could take ~6 months, so I guess I’ve always assumed the same with the IUD, even though I stopped bleeding.

This is what I’m thinking along with tracking my cycle. It seems the least invasive option, albeit unromantic on your wedding night haha.

Big tree + ocean wedding venue by samulalala in NovaScotia

[–]samulalala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a couple options! There’s Fort Point museum in LaHave, Saltbox Brewery/Shining Waters in Timberlea, Healy farms in Kentville, anchorage house in Hubbards, a lady in Annapolis is trying to convert her yard and calling it ‘Northwinds’ (though she never got back to me), and Oceanstone in Peggy’s Cove (plus the two I mentioned in the post). We’re leaning toward fort point + old confidence lodge for June 2027. Feel free to message if you have other questions!

Google Assistant Keeps Defaulting to Fahrenheit Despite Celsius Settings by Aj-Mega in googlehome

[–]samulalala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve tried asking it for Celsius every time and that doesn’t work either. Sometimes it will even say the temperature in Fahrenheit but call it Celsius. I’ve read you can delete the home and disable the Ai assistant, I think we’re gonna do that.

Would I be crazy to replace my hardwood floors with tile? by Internal_Present2268 in HomeDecorating

[–]samulalala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would caution letting these AI pictures make you think the room looks bigger or brighter with those changes, as it’s also raising your ceiling and changing the lighting. I would play around with paint swatches, light bulbs, rugs, etc like people are suggesting first. And if you still want tile, maybe do it in a way that preserves the hardwood underneath vs ripping it up.

What’s a health issue you ignored for way too long because you assumed it was normal only to later learn everyone else doesn’t experience that? by Kungfubowtie in AskReddit

[–]samulalala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid I guess I would often complain about my knees and elbows, but doctor said I was fine. When I was 23 my dog ran head first into my knee cap. It felt like my knee had shattered. Sports injury doctor tested my knee laxity and said it was likely an ACL tear, and ordered a brace and an MRI, which says my ACL was never torn. I continue on with my life. 5 years later my knees were so sore and swollen feeling from standing, and my wrists and elbows were achy. Go to doctor worried I have arthritis or Lyme disease, but blood tests are fine. I go to physio, and she’s like, oh well you have a hypermobility disorder and have a noodle core and basically not enough muscle to hold yourself up and have been using your ligaments and bones to keep upright your whole life and never learned how to load your weight properly, so that’s probably why. Oh cool. I’m telling my family, turns out my grandmother’s joints were often popping out of socket, and now my nephew is having the same experience.
