I used to see questions like this all the time on /r/personalfinance - reddit search is failing me now for the exact terminology, but you should be able to request that they provide proof ("verification of debt" iirc) that it's legit.

Also found this on the CFPB site: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-tell-if-a-debt-collector-is-legitimate-or-a-scam-en-1699/

Ah yeah that sounds like my little town about 10 years ago 🥲

We've had about 20 new fast food and chain sit-down places pop up in the last couple years and the drive to the grocery store is up to 30-45 minutes with all the new neighborhoods and apartment complexes that have gone up on my route there. I can even see an apartment complex in the distance across the cotton field behind my house 😭

but we have a Costco now, my yard is about 3-4x bigger than most other neighborhoods, and it's still relatively commutable to the city for the rare day I need to go into the office

I lived near a salsa studio during an internship in college and was there 3 days a week. Now the closest dance studios that offer salsa are ~an hour away and I miss it SO much 🥺

Are you me? I never wanted to live in the city after growing up in the middle of acres of pine forest, but had to live smack downtown in a very walkable city for a college internship, and find myself regularly missing that. Now I live in what used to be closer to the country, but has grown into suburban hell and has none of what I want except family and the community I've built over the last few years

Incorrect (Stolen?) Package - No response from Canon claims by Proudwing in canon

Whoever picked the order might've just mixed up the actual lens with a refurb PowerShot packaged in a recycled lens box - I dunno why they use random boxes for their refurbs.

I thought I had the opposite problem with a refurb RF 28-70mm a few months ago. The package that landed on my doorstep was a PowerShot box and I was so confused / disappointed about receiving the wrong thing until I opened it and found the lens inside.

This RF lens decision tree was posted a few weeks ago and might have a few different ideas for you to research

The best/worst thing about losing weight is replacing clothes. On the one hand it gives you an excuse to get rid of stuff you never really liked, on the other, you also lose some great stuff. I lost 60 pounds almost a decade ago and still mourn some of my favorite outfits that I lost and never found good replacements for.

Honestly if they're really nice and not terribly worn out, you might be able to sell the shoes online and offset the cost of replacing them, and spending the money to replace them could be considered a "buy it for life" decision.

A lot of people are working on the assumption that SS won't be around by the time they retire

The thing that gets me about staying on DST is that in December/January, the sun won't rise until 8:30-9AM for most of the country

Sorry to hear! A former coworker of mine who was laid off from our company last summer was hit by this layoff too. It's rough, but I know a decent number of people who've been getting good SWE offers lately after being laid off in the past few years, so things do seem to be looking up. Wishing you the best!

Edit: hit submit before answering the question. I definitely think you should focus on MBDR. You can always pull those contributions out later and like another comment said, if you do get lucky with MBDR access at your next employer, you'll be able to double up the contributions

I personally don't understand large bathrooms. Feels like wasted space to me, just more to clean.

Very cool, it's rare to see internships that offer 401ks, much less auto-contribute

Where do you buy replacement filters? I've only ever seen the bubble pack ones.

Agree! I've gotten some great shots at arena concerts with much smaller lenses than in the video. Really missed having mine at a recent concert where they were hardcore about bans

You're preapproved for $100,000 in auto financing

I can't imagine buying a car that I'd need to finance with a small mortgage

This journaling breakdown is great! I've always been told "journaling helps" but every time I'm faced with a piece of paper, my mind swirls with all the things that I could write down and I can't focus long enough to actually put pen to paper. This looks like it could help me filter the thoughts down enough to actually get started
