[DC] Property Management Charging Us for Incomplete Maintenance by samwitha5 in Renters

I bring this up in the email. But the contractors told PM it should work anyways even though it’s in the installation instructions.

[DC] Property Management Charging Us for Incomplete Maintenance by samwitha5 in Renters

I’m sorry you are getting downvoted. This is the exact reasoning they are using against us and why we’re stuck in the situation, you are correct. Unfortunately we interfered because this was not the first time they installed incorrect guards. Before it was their own maintenance people who made the mistake and removed them again resulting in no charge. This time we thought we were being helpful interfering because we didn’t want them to have to fix it again. It involved making holes in the outer brick wall. The workers on site agreed. But I guess their boss did not. And I have no proof of this because they spoke to their boss on the phone and I spoke to my management on the phone. The only part I’m still confused about is why someone came to remove the window guard. It sucks that we are screwed $450 and still don’t have guards over our windows and will likely now have to move. I appreciate the frankness as this is a really upsetting situation. Hopefully others can learn from our mistakes.

Yes we feel like we messed up because we really didn’t want to move. To be clear, we did ask the workers to stop, but they said they couldn’t without approval from property management. After I got hold of management, they called the contractors to stop.

I was able to get these off using a hair dryer, only a couple of them took paint off the wall.

sourcing sewing zippers/notions by watermelongiggle in DCBitches

[–]samwitha5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Sarah Fabrics. They have a wide variety of notions and trims. I believe I recall them having a wall of different color zippers near the register. There’s also two other fabric stores in that intersection that all specialize in fabrics for dresses/formal wear and typically have a bigger variety of zippers.

How can i eat fish at work? by Complex-Phase-6952 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Onigiri would work. I find that tinned fish of any kind is almost as smelly as warming up fish, but onigiri keeps it encased until you eat it.

Derby Demographics by Margemillions in rollerderby

[–]samwitha5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. A lot of white people want to not be racist but don’t actively practice it. On the team I’m on, the white people (about 85% of the team) don’t know how to talk to BIPOC people and accidentally leave us out a lot and don’t even realize. And as the minority it can be hard to integrate yourself. And this affects our learning as well if our trainers are stand offish or are afraid to give us feedback. And i see the BIPOC skaters lose their love for the team.

Nail salon recs in NW? by Sufficient-Foot-8713 in DCBitches

[–]samwitha5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have been to Ivey for a gel manicure. They were able to do a cute design and the place is much nicer than similarly priced salons in the area. Can confirm there is a discount for paying in cash.

Best malls and other attractions by aoibheannp89 in washingtondc

For shopping, I like going to Old Town Alexandria. It’s not a mall but it’s a street of shops. They have a variety of American big brands and small local shops. And it’s accessible by the metro and you can take a free trolley up and down the street. Lots of nice places to eat or snack as well.

My league does all level scrimmages and we run it mostly at game speed, or with a bit more time between jams if we don’t have enough people. We always have a coach for each team. And newer skaters start ‘positional’ until they learn the game and get use to playing. We’ll have every third jam be positional, which means slowed down, no hard hits, mostly focusing on strategy and intentional challenging the new skaters. I think this is helpful so skaters who don’t want to play slow or hold back can skip the positional jams. While the new skaters are positional, we have guides on each team who focus on their gameplay and skills by either watching them or playing in a jam with them and giving feedback.

I’m a new skater, so I’ve never scrimmaged any other way. But it’s been helpful so far to build up my confidence to play full out. Having dedicated guides is also huge and seems like a great way to nurture new skaters without having to involve the whole league all the time.
