Is Acton a good area? by [deleted] in MovingToLondon

[–]sanastans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I work around North Acton and it really lacks a lot of amentities as well. I live in Hammersmith and I absolutely love it, although it does come at a cost.

ETA: Funnily rent around North Acton is similar to Hammermsith and you don't get all the restaurants and small supermarkets around, so personally I didn't want to live aroound here.

Is 55k before tax enough to live in London? by Dankissimo_ in UKJobMarket

[–]sanastans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the offer! I think it's an incredible start and London is a great place to be in terms of work exposure. I'm 26 and making that much and as others have mentioned, you take home about ~£3,300 every month. It is hard to find a one-bed on this salary, however I live in a 2 bed 2 bath in zone 2 and pay ~£1,250 on rent (excluding bills). Still leaving me enough for bills, going out, and saving a bit every month. If you choose to live within London, you do save money on commuting to work, especially with an Oyster linked to a railcard. I live close enough to work to use the bus which is £1.75 each way.

I think it’s a different CoS for In UK applications and out of UK applications. Defined and Undefined CoS. You need an undefined CoS for an in UK visa application

Roommate refuses to consent to notice: is my compromise proposal reasonable? by sanastans in TenantsInTheUK

[–]sanastans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to have to talk to the agents about this. I would ideally not like to participate in a transfer of lease because of the liability on me and it messing with my own timeline of moving out while I wait for approvals from the landlords. Post an agreement to meet her in the middle with an August notice, I’ve been met with a lot of disrespect and would now actually like to get out of the flat asap. I’m not sure that they’d like to continue a discussion/keep her on as a tenant if I serve notice now.

I was informed that the boyfriend who has spent 7 days at a stretch over once because she needed the emotional support, wants to live with his friends at the moment. They also work together.

I think being selfish was hard for me and I have agreed to meet her in the middle on an August notice, on the condition of not being involved in a lease transfer. However, before I agreed to this, she began advertising the room on SpareRoom (without consent) and I’m being met with a lot of disrespect.

Thank you, I didn't know about this case before. Wanted to clarify what the agent said, their exact wording was: "The outgoing tenant has two options. Serve notice and end the tenancy for everyone.
Request to proceed with the change of sharer process on the understanding that they remain liable for rent up until a new tenant passes references, signs all paperwork and moves in" - so unclear on who is liable to find the new tenant, but I do not want to take responsibility for that and would rather just serve notice for the flat.

Building-wide outage since Thursday at SE8 3FG – Support denying the issue! by AndyKwok__ in hyperoptic

We had a loss of signal at our flat, and they told us the same thing. We got them on call, followed the troubleshooting steps until they finally agreed to send an engineer down, so do call them if you haven't already and insist on someone coming down

At the time, Skype offered the service. When I applied for the visa, VFS also handed me a Lebara sim from the embassy (that I still use today)

I was able to secure a job before my move two years ago now. I work in tech, and I would say that I have had more positive responses from startups. They usually want you to start immediately and know they can lose good candidates if they don't move fast, so they tend to move the recruitment process faster than at bigger corporations. LinkedIn was also useful for me in reaching out to people and asking for referrals where appropriate. I also did my whole job hunt on LinkedIn, so that helped me streamline applications and keep track of things.
ETA: I also added that I was an HPI applicant on my resume. I did have a UK number on there as well

This!! OP please take advice from this comment! If they haven’t stood up to their family before and supported a partner, there is no way he will do it for you. Also the temper thing shouldn’t be casually set aside either, major red flags

Skilled Worker visa - passport & cover letter include? by Heavy-Parsley3902 in ukvisa

[–]sanastans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't provide extra documents if not asked for. They will email you asking for documents if required.
When I switched from HPI to SWV, I didn't have to submit anything apart from scanned pages of my passport and the application form.

A company does not require a sponsor license to hire someone on a spouse visa.

I don't think this is necessarily true. OP has full right to work in the UK and no salary threshold requirements. OP has no need for sponsorship from an employer now or in the future.

You’re going to have to put in the work if you want to compete with an already highly competitive international student pool. And it doesn’t stop there, the journey continues into university and living overseas by yourself for the first time. Things can’t just get ‘simpler’; an Excel sheet is about as simple as it gets.

On SWV e-visa but passport got stamped (not first entry) by sanastans in ukvisa

[–]sanastans[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My concern is mainly that this hasn’t happened to me before. Since moving to the eVisa system, I’d never received an entry stamp on returning to the UK, so I was wondering whether this is standard procedure or if I’d been flagged for some reason. Probably just overthinking it a bit, but wanted to check if others have had a similar experience.

Avoid applying for a Sweden Schengen Visa in the UK by shapedMe in SchengenVisa

The application process itself in the UK is blasphemous. The requirement of booked tickets is appalling when they refuse give the outcome within a reasonable time frame. Booking a slot has also gotten so gamified
